It just made me laugh. My father drove a Royal Enfield in Indonesia before in the 1930's before he was leaving to Holland for studying! That's always what I must think of, hearing the name. I suspect it's not a factory that has survived but a clever reuse of a classic name. I must say they look great, but I am not a motorcycle addict....! Simply too scared to drive one. Keep it to bicycles, and cycling, and Morgans of course. There are some famous cycles, made in Milano.....😍😉🇮🇪

In the 60s RE moved the factory to India to Chenai. It is the original factory though these day the engine etc is vastly changed.

I suspect much the same process involved in the world of four wheels in terms of Morris and Hindustani link up to create the Ambassador..

Great in Calcutta in the monsoons as they sit higher than modern cars & drive through the disgusting water.

I have a 2018 RE C5 500cc classic with their "modern" (at the time) UCE engine ( Unit Construction Engine ), being a mild tuned 500 single it is a plodder, but it so reminds me of the BSA singles that I rode in the 70's. It will plod along all day at 50 to 60 mph on A roads with just a hint of vibes through the bars. Build quality is actually very good, way better that the quality of Brit bikes from the 70's. Its electric start and on my model it still has a kick start, fuel supply is by injection plus it has hydraulic valve lifters, it starts on the button and settles to a low RPM thump thump thump. I have fitted RE's own low rider seat, so only a single seat M/cycle. It now has UK Hagon rear shocks which were set up to my body weight and it has a Hitchcocks ( UK RE dealer of a very long time ) rear silencer, the engine is rated as Euro 4 and its mini cat is just before the silencer in the downpipe, so I have been able to change the silencer for a UK one which gives it a nice deep tone with just a hint of bark and then twitter on the over run, but its not too loud.. All in all its a great bike for a nice relaxed ride over the hills on A and B roads.. I have thought of upgrading to their 650 twin, but in honestly I like riding the C5 so much its a bit of a keeper... and I still have my prewar BSA singles and 60's and 70's bonnies if I want the real experience.. love

My 2004 pre-unit, bought new. Slightly modified with Velocette exhaust etc... I haven't ridden it for a few years due to lack of time and because I have other bikes (and of course the Morgan). But I would like to put it back into service next year with a major inspection. I would never sell it, I still like it very much.

What more can you ask for than a modern rendition of a classic, that takes you back to your youth with hopefully more reliability and less oily stuff to deal with. That allows you to focus on the pure pleasure and enjoyment of riding at a pace you feel comfortable with.

My nephew had a 500 Enfield single as his 'Guest Bike' ... just for biking visitors to have something to join in a spin out on ... borrowed it one sunny afternoon so we could go for a ride together (he had a modern 650 twin Enfield done up like a classic cafe-racer) ... really loved it ... took me right back to my early biking days on Beezer singles 🙂
