Thermal shock. Normally with a new radiator and the software update it should be ok. The software update has to be done since 1 year . On my car the radiator was changed but the software update was not yet existing .
Thank you Thierry.
I am intrigued that reprogramming will benefit radiator integrity. But that seems to be very possible with closed systems. No incorporated mechanical relief feature
I guess. Therefore one must have an ultra precise fuel map that prevents any possibility of heating beyond a certain point. But with no way to politely overflow
under duress, the only remaining option is to spring a leak by compromising the MMC rad welding.
The rad would also have to be weaker than the multiple hose
connections! Thermal shock is normally called a "leaking rad".
though it was also thought to be to cause of all those LR V8s slipping their liners and their block
cracking. LR was experimenting with warming their engines up faster...an interesting tale for another time. A closed system, if not functioning within very strict
parameters, would have to put immense pressure on running details. Can't easily cure it by changing the rad cap..at least offically.
All this must be fun (not) experimenting for someone on Pickersleigh Road. But getting 5 replacement rads points to a deeper problem of common sense with the
individual who decided upon the system and/or he-who-is-responsible for production this area. Perhaps we can help.
BTW, unlike most, I understand there is a teething period with new ideas and designs. I also am more tolerant of human error than most. I make them often. One
learns very little from success.
