"I am told that mighty oaks grow from little acorns. wink It is a question of market size. There are likely 20,000+ trads on the road. Compare that to the Aero market. Current models, I imagine, will be supplied separately, as they are now, by current production. I can tell you that you CAN probably get Aero I wings soon, something that has not been possible for over 20 years".
Yes that is all well and good but suspension expendables are a nightmare now that Simon is out of the game, just ask your cohorts.
We have a Forum member with a grounded Aero due to lack of brake parts, very basic consumables at that so they are poorly served which I find disgraceful service given the unit cost of these cars at the time. Three months wait time he has been told by a trusted and well respected dealer.
The SS unit out of production and flogged off to India where they promptly metrified all new units so there is zilch in the way of spares for existing owners of the M3W, they might like to comment on this also.
M3W owners on this Forum will be most interested if these units are to be supported too.
I am all for some form of indirect MMC support if it is to be beneficial to the owners and themselves without ridiculous mark ups as at present when they deem to supply parts.

Richard, You and I do not have the same perspectives or the same targets for admiration. Forgive me, but I have never been interested in Morgans other than trads. The consultant group I have gathered was for their trad knowledge not for their acumen of M3Ws, Aeros or later fare, if any. Logistics dictate that we try with the largest group of consistent product rather than a smaller one. The MMC, at the direction of the then Management, abandoned the stocking and retail sale of trad parts two decades ago. It will take some time and help for them to get up to speed again. All Morgans types are in need. Four-wheelers have not formed a self-help society like the fantastic support and parts supply the MTWC built up..an example for the automobile world. The non-trad 4 wheelers are much smaller in number. Their issues must be dealt with one-by-one until someone like yourself does something about it. I do not know any M3W or Aero gurus aside from Pete Larsen. The other problem is that these models changed rapidly and constantly, often daily on the production line and most often not tracked. Trads changed far less, aside from the engine management. However, I gather you think the general idea a good one? L. P.S. Why not have those Aero/M3W sufferers post their issues to this forum?

You're right about the markup and wild price variation ... had the misfortune to lose the petrol cap off my mid '70s 4 seater (push and twist kind) ... looked on the web and first hit (Morgan aftermarket supplier) wanted $65 (plus shipping) ... did some measuring and it's identical to those used on many British motorcycles of the day ... you can get an identical top-quality cap for less than a quarter of that.
I doubt MMC involvement will trigger a gouging frenzy amongst the current aftermarket suppliers (or they'd be at it already) ... and if MMC start producing former 'in-house' parts currently unavailable, then all to the good.

K The information is very fresh. The suppliers you refer to will be learning now, if they read this forum. But I am sure they will continue to "gouge". This thing won't be fully running for some time. The time will depend on how much information they get from us. The MMC will NOT be producing parts. They will continue to focus on current production, a separate division. This is the best for everyone. In this case, Morgan-only parts will be sourced, as they always have been, from those deemed worthy. The best in the trad Morgan community will advise. It is hoped, in some cases, that parts will be as original but better. A gusset here, a better quality of metal there. After all, retired doesn't mean brain dead. I can remember so much from 30 years ago, just cannot remember where I put my reading glasses.

Spot on we do not. I focus my spare time and resources on humanitarian interests, my interest in Morgan's in the pure enjoyment my Plus 8 affords me as a hobby and pastime. Simon was far and away the expert on Aero's and was a great loss to that community should you take the time to read that section of this Forum, same applies for the M3W section of this forum you will find both a hugely enlightening experience I feel. Can't quite see how you missed all those posts. Phil Beazley has worked wonders for the final drive side of the M3W but the engine issues remain now SS sold out to India. The owners of Aero's and M3W are the best suited to resolve their issues as I don't have a vested interest or first hand knowledge unlike MMC or them.

I focus my spare time and resources on humanitarian interests, my interest in Morgan's in the pure enjoyment my Plus 8 affords me as a hobby and pastime. A major way I express my humanitarism is through freely helping other trad owners..through gomog and my always overfull Help Line. I enjoy it. I used to do much more. Aging. This effort reflects that. the expert on Aero's and was a great loss to that community should you take the time to read that section of this Forum, same applies for the M3W section of this forum you will find both a hugely enlightening experience I feel. Can't quite see how you missed all those posts. That's easy to answer. I don't read those posts unless privately asked offline In fact, that is my general rule with posts on any forum. I don't read posts on the early three-wheeler club either. Or any vehicles, Morgans or not, I am not interested in. I am not a general autophile or as, Luddite used to say, a carsonova. I am glad to read that the other Morgan models you mention have people that can be relied on to help. I am a one-trick pony. I could not organize help for other models even as well as you would be capable of. I don't know enough. However, with the Morgan YOU own, you will benefit mightily if this works out. Do you think it a worthy effort? L.

It will indeed be worth the effort if it is a cost effective operation for them and the customers.

It's certainly a potential commercial plus for MMC as the numbers of pre CX cars is large. Spares is a combination of Morgan in-house and bought in. Knowing the ID of the latter is an important factor in keeping your car on the road. Engines....Ford, Rover, Fiat, BMW, Triumph etc. Gearboxes, clutch...... Brakes.... Talkmorgan, Gomog and others are a mine of info to help, as are after market suppliers. I've used them (Librands, Rimmer, Demon Tweeks, Merlin to name a few). For MMC to hold a huge spares stock is stupidly expensive so hopefully franchising, deals with suppliers etc will emerge. There will be a massive range of spares for all the car variants. Restrictive access that uses big mark up in price is not good. Puts buyers/owners off and creates a negative image. I do hope that pricing is sensible though.

For me the real focus of this type of spares support shouldn't focus on service items which for most modern Morgans can be sourced anywhere, but more on the supply of unique one off Morgan specific parts and components that are difficult to source, to keep Morgans on the road.
For example PCB's, and Aero window winders to mention a few and so on , some of which may require remanufacturing as original sources have dried up. But that might require tooling costs etc., which have to be recovered and then questions eventual selling price.
