Well, I certainly applaud the MMC project to provide 'heritage' parts. But for us older guys (both car and human), i'm not sure it is going to change anything. I asked if they could supply the Girling rear wheel brake cylinders or shoes on my 1953 plus 4 - sadly not. They said: that was not something they could supply from stock - they were wating to see what requests came in so that they could then understand what items customers are finding difficult to source - they plan to log all enquiries so they can then prioritise by demand - that seems a rather lengthy process.
Hmm, I would have thought they should really know already what bits wear out, and which are hard to source. Oil seals, suspension components, brake cylinders, brake shoes, brake hoses, all the Lucas stuff, body and tub components, Gemmer/Cam gear steering boxes etc etc. I doubt they need to stock Ford/Triumph/Rover etc engine parts as they are widely available anyway.... just the Morgan specific stuff. In the end they suggested I ran up Melvyn.
(BTW if do need brake parts for a early 50s plus 4, they are off an Austin A40 and available from LongbridgeMotors).
What would really be helpful would be a translation table from the Morgan part number in the Parts book to the real number/supplier in the real world.

I asked if they could supply the Girling rear wheel brake cylinders or shoes on my 1953 plus 4 - sadly not. Please give this thing a bit of time to get up and going. The MMC Management of the day took the MMC out of the vintage Morgan supply business over twenty years ago They will not be up and running in a week. My little group of former gurus has yet to receive their first request for a part source. Be patient. Gomog stated the following almost 20 years ago. [b]Special Note on Wheel Cylinders! by Lorne Goldman December 21, 2005
The Works has announced that the Girling rear brake cylinders are no longer available and has sent this information to their Agents. This crucial parts was/is used on the following Morgans +4s 1958 to 7/1993 4/4s from 1960 to 7/1993 +8s from 1968 to 7/1993
In fact, there is a readily available OEM match sourced by an eMOG member at a retailer. Here are the details. Pattern Rear Brake Cylinders manufactured by Past Parts, part no. 25-0146 They take Visa and are willing to ship worldwide. Cost is GBP 15.08. I will make an inquiry to our Committee for you to make the response more current. There is SO much we must help the MMC with. There is no magic in this only much hard work and guidance from the community..namely you. gmg P.S. Meanwhile, you have other, better options. For the same price you can have your wheel cylinder re-sleeved and refurbished for the same price as new ones will cost. This process makes the result a forever part, aside from a rebuild every few decades with a rubber kit. As for the shoes, send them off to be relined. Where are you?

I'm all in favour of factory support for the older models. I also appreciate GoMogs resource and enthusiasm.
However, while we "give it a bit of time to get up and going" perhaps it could be brought to their attention that accusing current suppliers of "exploiting" the current spares market will not be conducive to getting help from owners.
I'm mindful of Jaguar Classic that, through arrogant management, managed to alienate large parts of the Classic Jaguar community and generated massive unwelcome publicity for themselves in the process.

so we won’t be changing our established loyal suppliers will we. I'm unlikely to swap my usual suppliers of stuff, unless MMC come in MUCH cheaper (for the same quality). They've served me well over my ownership and I have a certain loyalty to those that give me good service. As Hamwich mentioned, I'm one of the 'flat cappers', do 98% of work myself and don't care about originality or using 'factory' parts. The only time I've used a main dealer was when my car was under warranty and still ended up fixing the problem myself when they couldn't.

I just love the smell of hot oily metal and leather. I do find gomog a good resource for reference at times and shall continue to use it but any queries will always be posted on TM out of loyalty and success rate.

(BLUSH) It is part of my Morgan hobby. 3 decades of doodling. .... but any queries will always be posted on TM out of loyalty and success rate. Good habit. I just love the smell of hot oily metal and leather. I could not agree more. My first loyalty is to my fellow owners, no others come close. Considering the politics, the financing, the profile prominence in the international community, the MMC is/was the logical first place to start this initiative for all of us. I am too old to create and maintain a changing parts-sourcing facility on gomog. It is necessary though. I see that everyday in my inbox. But the MMC must prove themselves. They are more fun bunch today than I have seen for a long while. That makes it much easier. I can and do recommend the Ecklers (Morgan Spares) (gobs of old Morgan knowledge) and Wolf Performance (great designs and top qualty. As always in the last 30 years, I have no beneficial connection with anyone on the trade side. gmg

As mine were cracked and have been welded I am wary that they may fail again ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/08/16/H_BrakeBars.jpg)
