My car, a ‘22 Plus Four bought directly from Morgan factory, has a Banner battery fitted. Not had any starting problems but do keep it on a Ctek if the car is not used for longer than a week.

Trouble is the bmw cars with this engine has the same. Maybe the OS module requires it.
It would be interesting to know if any brave would has gone the cheaper route I would suspect the charge parameters built into all the BMW electronics and the alternator are set up for an AGM battery, you can't even swop some batteries like for like in 'moderns' without a laptop reflash RichardV6 may chip in with some sage advice...

I suspect its AGM because they dont leak and dont require a vent tube as battery acid will eat aluminum for breakfast,

Not sure quoting oneself is correct etiquette but felt compelled to highlight my own ignorance. I thought AGM was a brand of battery, not a type, hence prattling on about mine being a Banner one. I have enlightened myself.

Every day has the potential to be a school day has it not Marcher, I do quite a lot of learning on TM, and even more re-learning so many of the things I fail to remember...

Every day has the potential to be a school day has it not Marcher, I do quite a lot of learning on TM, and even more re-learning so many of the things I fail to remember... I have a Banner too in my PlusFour, and Avons as tires, all completely non-continental  . A well known advertisement in Holland used to be, in case of non-starting, it cannot be the battery, because that's a Varta! In my 4/4 I have a normal Duracell lead-battery, because Duracell goes on, and on, and on, etc.....!!

Had a non start goose chase recently but learned that the battery was too low due to a poor connection on the charger.
Realised that I can view the battery charge level on my phone via the MMC fitted tracker app which is useful.
