Any recommendations for a suitable glue to stick the U shaped seal into the head-rail of our Roadster. Evostick won't do as the seal needs to be slid into place and a contact adhesive will bond immediately on contact. And I reckon that cyanoacrylate (superglue) will be too brittle.

You need a thixoropic contact adhesive. Screwfix etc. I’ve used several types, it’s a bit like normal contact adhesive but allows slippage before pressure forms the bond.

This might do the job. Although check it’s solvent based and not water based.

Are you sure you need to glue the seal. When I replaced my screen the seal was just pushed into place by the glass.

Grumpy, Your '56 +4 will have a row of lift-a-dot fasteners to secure the hood to the top of the windscreen frame I belive.
My 2006 Roadster has a long U shaped steel channel with a U shaped rubber extrusion glued inside. This is attached to the front of the hood and it drops over the top of the screen frame and is secured by over-centre catches at either end. Much easier than ripping your fingernails off trying to get the hood on in January. I need to glue the rubber extrusion inside the steel U section channel.

Ring Allon White's and ask what they use.
They did mine in the past but I don't know what glue they used....🤷🏻‍♂️

It will be an industrial neoprene adhesive a stronger version of Evostick. Not all contact adhesive set straight off, they allow you to move the piece to the right location.

You should find some at a DIY store but the trick is to preclean & degrease all contact surfaces using say meths.
The setting time is controlled b how fast the solvents flash off. Ensure you do it in a well ventilated area.

Use Dunlop 1358 (brushable) or Alpha AN189 (Sprayable)

Like I said earlier, you need a thixotropic contact adhesive - easy enough to come by.

Unfortunately the Alpha Thixofix is water based. Below is the adhesive Allon White use for the header rail seal.
