Has anyone got any experience removing the Superform rear wheel arches on a modern Trad? Mines a 2015 Plus 4 for reference. I've got a little hole in the nearside caused by a piece of metal and it would be useful to be able to get the arch off to get it welded before filling and painting, essentially to keep costs down. Thanks.

Kevin,
I think it is bolted on underneath. There are build book photos on here like this one here showing that. But I have never attempted it. I think the bolts go through or into the wooden inner arch with maybe a nut on the inside & are then covered on the inside by leather card.
Gambalunga's build book show more.

The parts book you can download from BHM shows this & MGB0027 seems to be a bolt.

Hopefully someone with hands on experience will come along.

Hello,

you just want to take off the wing?
On newer traditional cars Morgan did fit nut inserts for the rear wing fixing screws.
So you can take the wing off without touching the inner trim parts.
Easy job and done very quickly....

Just the wing. Got hit by a length of flying metal which did this: [Linked Image]

Thanks Frank (and John).

Hi,
I did this recently on my 2000 car, so might not be the same.

It should be similar though:
First remove the wheel, obviously.
Then disconnect the rear lights, the connectors are probably accessible by removing the spare wheel.
Remove the bolt connecting the wing to the trailing end of the front wing and retain the spacing rubber, or rubbers.
Remove the stay bar.
Then remove all the nuts holding the wing in place (I think they're 5mm from memory).
There may be a screw at the trailing edge where the wing joins the rear valance, (if fitted).
It's just a case of judiciously wiggling the wing, gently prising away from the beading and it should come off then.

Refitting is the reverse but not an easy job as lining up the wing holes to the studs can be difficult and may need a bit of gentle persuasion.

Hope this helps
Derek

Kevin,
seems easier than I thought. Good luck. did you find the metal basher yet to repair it?

There's a place in Harleston that can do the welding and I've had a quote of £285 for the filling and painting. Probably get a quote from that place Dean recommended as well as he was happy with their work.

The only tricky bit will be removing lamp Kevin. There are two long thin studs top and bottom of same, lying horizontal when fitted. Discovered this when I found top one had fallen out and was lost. Suggest getting releasing fluid on overnight. Note MMC use the high tech solution of a short piece of thin rubber tubing slid over threads, cut at a slant angle to compensate for the extreme angle of fixing to inside of sloping wing.

Suggest tracing connector and uncoupling first which should allow for complete removal of lamp.

Thanks Frank (and John).

Ouch ! good job it didn't hit the driver or passenger

Looking at how bad the damage is, I would enquire the cost of a new MMC one

I've had a few dings knocked out on the clubsport and the superform superwoman panels are hard to work. If you can I'd aim for a replacement if they are available.
