It seems the best scenario is to allow fossil fuels/hydrogen for heating homes and hydrogen for transport and develop carbon capture to mitigate the emissions whilst aiming for net zero. Turn excess wind farm energy in hydrogen production (stored energy).
As it appears that cleaning up our skies is actually accelerating climate change ,as there is less sun reflected from now increasingly warming seas as a direct result of cleaning up shipping emissions. Smog actually helps us.
At some point surely the penny will drop, as the US the major emitter is going to accelerate its fossil fuel use, UK net zero s meaningless and an economic load being forced on its people, which will not stop global warming or rising seas.

Luckily our closest neighbours are at least 100ft away. New people have just moved in, and the previous ones hadn’t been aware of the noise. I’d like to get rid of it in the future anyway!

They do seem to have a mixed reception .... couple up the road from us installed a heat pump (compulsory on their brand new build) ... after the first winter they had it pulled out and a boiler installed ... hard to know why some swear by them and some ditch them .... is it down to the competence of the installers a bit? .... we used to laugh when the renewables thing really kicked off .... there were people who were installing double glazing and garage doors suddenly re-inventing themselves as 'Renewable Enegy Experts' running about doing questionable installs all over the place. I wonder if heat pumps are suffering the same thing now they're flavour of the month.

Oh great Alistair. Most of it will have inadequate noise suppression so use of the hf (and very likely vhf/uhf) radio bands will become impossible. Graham don't say that out loud or someone will start to put a bigger tax on it.....
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

K Around here there was a massive push by both the Local Authority and Government grants for cavity wall insulation upto around 2008, when cavity wall insulation fell off a cliff around here. Because of the coastal location with high precipitation and strong winds, they have now found that in the insulation no matter how well installed get wet and there are serious issues with damp bridging across the cavity to inner walls. There now is a massive industry grown around having the cavity insulation removed. When looking at prospective properties around here, we check Building Control to see if they had cavity insulation installed, if so, unless its been removed we don't bother even going. Now the next big scandal is roof spray insulation installed in loft, many houses cannot get a mortgage now unless its removed. So much for forward thinking and thoroughly testing new methods of insulation within a given environment. The Government now has a map of the UK rating areas suitability for cavity wall insulation and exposed coastal areas are now no longer suitable, kind of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted

We definitely didn't want to go down the ashp route but it's impossible to pass the SAP calculation for energy performance if you don't put one in. We were going to fit the very best german boiler, they're mega, we've fitted one before, but it was an instant fail in the SAP, if we chose to fit any ashp, the cheapest, nastiest, least efficient one imaginable, it was a straight pass.........🤷🏻♂️ This is how the figures are manipulated to make you have on in a new build. We've also fot to have 140mm of celotex in the cavity, it's huge......... but hopefully it'll be warm......🤷🏻♂️
As far as I know.....noisy ashp's are often down to them not been installed perfectly plumb. If they're slightly out of plumb the fan is running at an angle and the bearings get hot, noisy and wear out........

There are acoustic enclosures for ASHP, aircon condensers etc, commercial premises have been using them for years to comply with planning conditions on audible noise / neighbour nuisance

I've just replaced my 24 year old gas boiler with another £2.5k all in, you can keep your ASHP.

Yet, Porsche itself its apparently backing continued use of the ICE. Be interesting to see what happens in the UK come 2030, if ICE are still banned. Will Porsche i=only sell EV's into a very important UK market. The issue you raise is only likely to affect the 911 and Coxter cars - the others are tarted up VWs and I would imagine that as long as they still have the Porker badge, the owners wouldnt care whether the vehicle was EV or ICE. After a lifetime of owning and driving boneshaking sports car, I really rather enjoy the calm quiet of an EV when in one. There's no real opportunity to use a sports car in the way they are designed to be used anyway. I wouldnt be surprised to see sports cars disappear all together.
