Received my new clock yesterday. It looks exactly like the old clock. I haven't installed or connected it yet. Will report once I do.

A 2005 Morgan has certainly an electronic Quartz clock and wrong polarity will either fry the unit or it won't work at all. Internally is a "stepper", a magnet coil that advances the gears. I assume there is sticking oil/dirt on the gears that causes it to reverse ! Or maybe its one of those joke clocks that go reverse

John Good news John, you may care to offer the old one to Gary (OZ 4/4) on here as he runs a DeLorean out there....

Richard, your mention of impulse relative to time... I have an old Synchronome master clock up in the attic, of the type that kept accurate time time in many public buildings of all sorts such as schools airports government offices and much more....Interesting times... (-:

George would that be the same as the old clocking in one's where you stamped your works card in going back to one of my first jobs.
Sort of mini grandfather clock with a lever near where you inserted your card that you pushed down to stamp your card for the wages office, a lovely unit.

Good find Jon G. Thanks for posting.
The master clock was a master to slave clocks which were simple ratchet and pawl devices which were wired in series with each other and reacted to an electrical impulse supplied by the master every 30 seconds, thus the minute hand could be seen to jump forward every half minute and on every slave in the system. Many tower and ornamental clocks attached to the exterior of significant high street shops were slaves to a Synchronome master .
There were other time related devices such as you suggest Richard operating on the same principal to record employees attendance times which were either stand alone or attached to a master clock to ring school bells, sound factory tea breaks, etc.etc.etc... Enough already... (-:
