Today I took advantage of the.warm weather and fitted this Ebay bargain factory tonneau cover to Monty, a bit of sun helped to soften the vinyl and get the tensioning right.



It was still a bit scary drilling pilot holes for the poppers, but Blutak ensured safe accurate marking out so it all turned out really well



I plan to drive with the tonneau fitted but I've noticed once I've unzipped the driver's side portion and folded it behind my seat, it fouls the seat belt so it no longer auto-retracts.

For safety I need it to retract properly so there's no slack in the belt, has anyone with a tonneau cover come up with a solution for this, or perhaps I'm just folding the driver's portion incorrectly?

You have to find the sweet spot, undoing the rear popper helps. Looks good by the way

That's the big issue with single-zip tonneau covers, it can be very tricky to fold them so that they don't foul.

The best solution IMO is to get someone to convert it to a 3-zip layout.

I was thinking about fabricating a removable bar with a roller to hold the belt down and away from the tonneau material, I don't run headrests so I figured the unused socket in the driver's seat would make a good mounting point for the guide bar.

However, I can see how the three zip arrangement could help, I'll speak with my trimmer about adding the two additional zips.

Slightly different as I have a 4 seat, but I made a removable bar that mounts on the rear window brackets. Dead posh, with rose joints either end so it can be tightened up.

Tonneau cover folds underneat and then rests on the bar allowing proper operation of the belt.

On my tonneau there are three clips from the rear to the door. I leave the first two done up, it holds the tonneau up. Then fold the “ear” that goes down the door under and hold that up as I fold the tonneau down. Check the belt is free and adjust if needed.
Not ideal but it works.

Snap Dave! Picked up a bargin on eBay, too. Mine's an unused mohair with no fasteners so need to fit those. I have the fasteners on the car though. Where did you get your fasteners?

Usually get mine from ebay - Lift the Dot, DOT Turnbutton or press studs - have all three types on my cover.

I needed eight males (4 each side) with integral screws, but with press studs you tend to get males and females as a set, I went with stainless steel.

The Lift-dot 5/8" stainless steel screw studs I bought were genuine DOT, and came from here:

There are three in the dash, but I only needed to buy two as oddly Monty had the central one fitted from new?

I pressed a 50p sized disc of Blutak against the panel, the pushed each tonneau press sud lightly into it to make an impression, this gave me a reliable centre for the drilling, I used a tiny 1.5mm drill bit which proved perfect for the pilot holes.
