Another question if I may?

My new car has a 'cleaned up' front end and consequently no spotlights, and, whilst the LED mains are perfectly good, I could do with some light shining way down the road where the current beam ends.

Does anyone have suggestions for a pair of good, powerful, spots. Recommendation is always best as I don't want to buy some and then find they are not as good as I wanted.

Beware that LED spotlight's pointing higher than the 8 inch headlamps on main beam will blind you on sign reflections. Having said that it might be worth checking headlamp adjustment on main and dip beam as from your comments they may be a little low on the former.

That point about blinding oneself is very valid Richard, it happens with the LED headlights too. The lights are actually about right, any higher and the dip cut off would be too high, and in fairness the range is good, I just need it to be better, especially down here in the South West, where there is a lot of wildlife on the roads. I have had 2 deer strikes, a Badger strike and a Hawk who was feasting on some road kill as I rounded a bend, and flew away up, right into my nearside headlamp, taking the lens, reflector and indicator with it. That was expensive on a nearly new M3!

If anyone actually has a pair of good LED spot lights they want to sell, I might well be interested in buying them. Just PM me please.

Would it be OK to fit older spotlights and swap the bulbs for LED's?

I know its illegal to do this with headlamps but not sure of the legality with spots.

I know the ARP4 had dedicated LED headlamps and LED auxiliary lights. Not sure if spots or fog though.

Paul, I had heard of an early CX adopter who tried to fit extra spotlights using the proper harness points installed and taped back, only to end up with an epic fail - in the end the car had to go to the Factory service dept to have the BCU flashed to energise the relevant circuit and tell the car it had spots fitted (& it was a chargeable update)

So may be worth checking with your local friendly dealer before committing the hard earned ££
