Hi all
I’m taking the plunge this summer and taking the M3W down to Bordeaux in July/August and coming back!! I don’t intend to use motorways, but could, and wondered if any one had any recommendations for hotels with secure parking. Happy to wind my way there over a few days starting with the train from Calais. The alternative is too tow it with my Landy, however, I don’t have a trailer yet and will still need secure parking.
Regards Andrew

We have always done quite well with Logis - you won't find many with really secure parking but, with persistence, you will often find off road parking that is quiet and safe.
Our trip in a similar direction used:
HÔTEL MERCURE MONT-SAINT-MICHEL route du Mont Saint Michel, BP 8 50170 LE MONT-SAINT-MICHEL - FRANCE
Best Western Plus Le Roof - Excellent food 10 Allee des freres Cadoret, Vannes, 56000, France
Logis de la Loire - Not recommended. Le Jarrier d'Ancenis Rd 723, 44150 Saint-Herblon,Vair-sur-Loire France Phone : +33 (0) 2.40.96.00.03"
Hotel Residence de Rohan - no restaurant but nearby beach front dining. 7 avenue de Rohan, 17640 Vaux-sur-Mer, Royan France 00 33 5 40 16 99 78"
Le Renaissance 225 avenue de Villeneuve, 40000 Mont-de-Marsan France
Le Clos de la Fontaine Maison d'Hôtes de Charme & SPA - CAHORS - This is a house rented with the owner as cook - very good. Our group filled the house. 444 Chemin Du Moulin Et De La Fontaine - 46090 LABASTIDE MARNHAC Phone : +33 7 81 76 76 87 Mobile phone : +33 7 81 76 76 87 E-mail : closdelafontaine.lot@gmail.com
Logis Hôtel Black and Green - OK but near a busy road 270 Route de Toulouse. 87000 LIMOGES (FRANCE) Phone : +33 (0) 5.55.06.25.25 contact@groupebng.fr
DOMAINE DE LA TORTINIERE - Quiet and good food. 10 ROUTE DE BALLAN 37250 Veigné +33 2 47 34 35 00 contact@tortiniere.com
Logis Hôtel du Commerce - not really off road parking but 4 Morgan 4 wheelers were safe. Good food at excellent price. Convenient for Caen. 8 Rue de la 5ème République 14690 PONT D'OUILLY (FRANCE) Phone : +33 (0) 2.31.69.80.16"

As Peter suggested The Logis book helped us find accommodation while travelling through France.
My good lady did all the organisation for our trips, but it was a tip from Spanner Juggler of this parish that made her task so much simpler to operate on a day by day basis while travelling through France and on down to Sorrento in our +8.... He suggested that he ever used the local tourist offices in whichever town or city he was heading for...?
A fun example was having just emerged from a traffic foul up through a very hot Naples we pulled over on a hillside viewpoint overlooking the coastline to Sorrento, at the time a mobile phone was no more than that, and my good lady phoned her sis in law in Scotland, asked her to look for the telephone number of the Sorrento tourist office and then to phone back with the number, which she did thus perhaps 10 mins later my good lady phoned the Sorrento tourist office, and tourist offices tend to have a staff member who can converse in English, My good lady asked the keen to be helpful chap if he could find a hotel with secure parking, a swimming pool, a room with a balcony and a view over the Bay of Naples, The chap asked and when would madam want the room for.... and he was quite surprised when she replied tonight..!!! He replied he was sure he could find somewhere and would phone back, which he did and the place had all that was specified....
In fact My good lady often used that process to to book accommodation on a day by day basis while touring, sometimes visiting the tourist office in the morning and in whatever town we stayed in the night before.
Hope this bit of a ramble might help your trip planning Andrew.

Found the descriptions & facilities quite accurate including parking I generally have a month in France in the summer and also use Booking.com for the journey down (and back) - combined with Street View, I always find secure parking. I am on the other side (east) this year which won't be any good for Bordeaux. Two years ago I passed close to Bordeaux and these might be close to your route. Chateau de Razay Hotel le Saint Gelais Chateau de Lacenne

Remember to keep m3wservices.com details handy in case you have any issues....we are only 1.5 hours from Bordeaux.
You don't really need secure garages unless your in a large town - secure parking is more than enough and many a time when going touring to Spain or Switzerland the m3w's are quite safe outside.
Unless your on a ,mission try to avoid peage's as although great for getting from A to B quickly they are pretty dull. If you do need to use a peage then I would highly recommend getting one of the automatic transponders to avoid having to stop at the barriers.
Avoid Paris or its outer ring road. Think M25 but worse...
I personally very rarely go to Calais to come down to the SW France - depending where you are in UK (Just noticed your in Shropshire and therefore why would you run the gauntlet of the M25 to get to Folkstone?) then Portsmouth - St Malo overnight is quite civilised and then the West Coast routes down to Bordeaux are far more relaxed - I recently undertook a Super3 trip home from St Malo using N or D roads only - added an hour and a half compared to Motorway route but much more enjoyable.
Also remember to look at school holiday dates in France for the summer and remember that at the end of July/beginning of August there are some dates that its recommended to avoid driving on as the French workforce all have the same vacation dates and the roads get extremely congested.
Reference trailer - then you may also require a Carnet card to temporarily import the car to the EU now as its on a trailer rather than being driven.
Have a safe journey.

Enjoy taking your M3W to France - great roads and as noted above, a bit of research will identify hotels with off-road parking - we have done many such trips in ours. One other suggestion extending Stevo666's ideas is to take the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and drive back via Bordeaux to the ferries from St Malo or Caen - we did this back in 2012 with our brand new M3W - even near continuous rain did not stop us enjoying the trip.
If you have not done them already, just make sure your M3W has all the recommended updates for long haul touring (fuel pump etc - see buying guide). With these done, they are pretty reliable as witnessed by the 13 of us who did 3000km in Morocco back in Feb with minimal trouble ... and if the worst happens, Steve @ M3WServices will certainy sort you out!

Yeah, my attempt at providing advice is well out of date, given we used paper maps and often got lost accidentally finding places of interest that we might never have otherwise visited. As suggested we arranged things on a day by day basis which although had it`s inevitable risks, never let us down, as my good lady ever found us accommodation for the night, at times very interesting digs...(-: The idea of planning a whole trip in advance seems to have potential to create pressure to be at a particular location around a time of day.. We tried to stick to perhaps 300 miles a day, using autoroutes to get as far south as possible then slowly wind our way back North using all sorts of back roads, which added interest... Whatever you choose Andrew, I hope it all works as you might hope.....Looking forward to you perhaps sharing a bit of your proposed travels...

Thank you to all who gave me some really good suggestions and ideas. Between the list of hotels, hotel.com and Longis we should be able to find somewhere. As regards the St Malo crossing, it’s a great suggestion, however, I’m also based near London and the Eurostar takes Tesco Vouchers. And so I save them and consider the trip as free.
It will be an adventure for 2 old duffers, bouncing around with little in the way of luggage.
Again thanks for the suggestions
