Reviving this topic as mine has gone a tad stiff, so first off, thank you Craig for posting this.
For those with a 4/4, does your heater control knob just turn or do you have clicks? I did a few searches on TM and a few have posted that they do in fact have clicks/indents on the heater knob but it's not clear if that is a Plus 4 only thing or not. See post here. It seems that some cars including mine didn't have the detent ball fitted from new despite the quadrant providing for this hence no clicking positions. All trads in recent years use this same heater control system.

Thank you for that Richard, It was that very post that had me wondering if I was missing something.
The heater itself works fantastically and gets quite toasty to say the least! Just now need to lower that lower panel and tip the dash to see see if I can free it up a wee bit.

On the subject of heater controls .... my 1995 Plus 8 has simple flaps in the footwell, either side of the heater box, that can be opened and/or rotated to control the airflow into the footwell.
Problem is that the "tubes" that the flaps are attached to are very loose in the housing and won't stay where they're put.
I assume this is a common malady, is there anything that can be done ?

Yes but this firm are really good. Just get a dimension or two off the car. I recently purchased some silicone coolant hose here.

Thanks for that, a very useful company.
The car isn't with me at the moment, but when it's back I'll try and get a picture, otherwise it's a bit difficult to explain..
Basically the heater flap is on the end of a short rigid circular stub pipe that pushes into the heater box from the cockpit side. Apparently the stub pipes can be turned to direct air as required. Unfortunately on my car the pipes are a very loose fit in the heater box and won't stay put.

If the tubes fit over a sort of metal stub that's undersized just wrap a few turns of black electricians tape around the stub and push the tube over what is now a neatly increased diameter...job done If the pipe fits inside a stub...just wrap the outside of the pipe end

I have really struggled with a stiff heater nob on my 2017 4/4 for some time so followed Craig's advice above. However it turned out in my case not to be the plates but the cogged wheel attached to the control nob itselfthat needed lubricating.

I’m of the age that even though I haven’t seen mine in a good while, it’s not been used much of late but I remember the knob not being stiff although it did not work properly……..I’m off to the garage now to give it a pull. The heaters on all my Morgans never worked well and I relied on the engine heat in winter but not fun in the summer . Hopefully things have improved over the years ??? MM PS Delete if too childish although would be interested to know if heaters now function well in new Morgans…..

The heater in my 1986 4/4 varies from being a complete joke to just about tolerable depending on the ambient temperature, and the demist fan provides less than a sparrow's fart worth of warm air to the screen. I've just got used to it over the years and always have a demisting cloth to hand when driving in steamy weather. A few years back a pal gave me a lift in his Duratec +4 and I was stunned just how effective the heater and fan was, it was amazing. Just like a proper car.
