I pick the car up tomorrow. Not happy with the explanation or bill to be honest, They had never seen it before and would be reported to the design team. The car should go to the factory for servicing apparently and they might have picked it up. Bare with me, bought the car at about 3k just had a service back to Morgan for a rad at about 6k so they pull the front apart so the rack is visible. I get the car back Mot and service the rack bye the way is covered by an ali plate. Another Mot and small service oils and filter etc.So inbetween the factory and two mot and service is only 6k miles. So my suggestion was that this could have happened at any time. I cant begin to explain to you how dangerous this could have been the whole thing was held together bye a thread. Given the car has only done 13k molly coddled miles and the seriousness of the situation I thought they would have at least picked up half the cost. Anyway paid the bill don't ask how much and another trudge back up to Malvern. You do not expect this on a car with 13k on the clock one very unhappy Morgan customer. Em

Reading between the lines...'the car should go to the factory for servicing apparently' .....a sad indictment of some of the service levels within the dealer network.
I would be pretty pissed off under the circumstances and I would be wondering is this a one off and now a permanent fix or could it happen again. None of it would fill me with confidence especially on such a critical component.

Sorry, I'm being a bit thick here. Did the bolts holding the steering rack onto the car come undone?

That is so very wrong! I guess it must have been loose since new. As far as servicing is concerned, I think it highly unlikely that “check steering rack isn’t ready to fall off” is on the service list! Sadly nowadays, servicing is carried out with reference tick boxes…if it ain’t on the list, it doesn’t get done. It’s why many of us DIY, but appreciate that the CX is a different kettle of fish when it comes to hands-on. If I were a CX owner, I would be worried once again until I had mine checked out.

This is typical Morgan and is just not good enough. What happened to the red marker pen, which confirmed all nuts were tight? Has that pen been consigned to the bin? And if you ask your dealer to check the steering rack attachment points, it won't be free, or anywhere close. I do despair sometimes. This appears to be my best image of the rack position, obviously not easy to access. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/03/30/P1050169.jpg)
