A bullet for your armoury…
Copied from Gov.uk “Vehicle recalls and faults”:
If you find a serious defect that affects the safety of your vehicle, one of its parts, or an accessory, report it to the manufacturer immediately.
Tell the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) if you’re not happy with how the manufacturer is dealing with your report.
DVSA will:
investigate the issue with the manufacturer tell you what action is being taken The vehicle, part or accessory can be recalled if it’s found to be a serious safety issue.
What counts as a serious safety defect
A serious safety defect is something:
about the way the vehicle is designed or made that’s likely to cause injury or death that happens suddenly and without warning MMC has "form" when it comes to shoddy engineering. Where do I start - the great sagging spring saga on Trads, cracked M3W chassis, pedal box issues, brakes and radiator problems with later models, the list goes on. Get this in front of the authorities ASAP...... I remember posting this years ago when I had big trouble with Morgan and sagging springs. I submit the post is still relevant today when it comes to addressing the current steering issues.... https://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthrea...-hastily-put-together-kit-car#Post137283

Ok everyone had long chat with the factory this morning. Something maybe i should have had when i picked the car up but it was on a Saturday .I have been assured that this was a complete isolated incident they do check for play on a service but dont take the plate off iff out of tolerance it is then inspected fully. Since emailing the factory I have received prompt verbal attention given the gravity of the situation perhaps this should have happened last Wednesday. They have been honourable and I wont be hugely out of pocket given the car is 5 year old but relatively low mileage. On my behalf can I say I felt nothing wrong with the steering no play or judder until the incident happened had the car not had power steering maybe something might have shown up who knows. So that's it really and I feel happier with the outcome. Credit when its due, Em

Ok, so if you are happy, thats fine and you can continue to enjoy safe and happy motoring. However, cannot convince myself how they can conclude that it is an “isolated incident” without at least examining a representative sample of other cars. They seem to think that it is isolated because you are the only one to experience it….so far!! If I were a CX owner, I would be having mine checked out pronto for peace of mind, especially as there was no fore-warning.

What I don't understand is MMC telling a buyer that the car should go to the factory for servicing. How will they sell any to people who live 100 miles away or abroad?

Em, did MMC say anything in detail about the cause? Basically, just a loose bolt? Broken bolt/ fitting? Does the bolt have a locking mechanism( tab washer/lockwire/threadlock/nyloc nut)? If not then why not? If missing then why? Looks like you had a lucky escape.
