Absolutely spot on.

If MMC have never seen it before then my guess would be that in production the bolts are supposed to be secured with Loctite and for some reason it didn't get applied in this case?

In any circumstance, safety-critical fasteners should always have some sort of security be it lock nuts, tab washers, lock wire, or a bonding agent used.

The fact that two M14 screws came loose is probably the correct explanation for the cause. However, as long as there is no communication about how these M14 screws are (normally) secured during production, one can almost fear that they are not secured at all. This would be a time bomb for the entire series. MMC should therefore make every effort to quickly communicate publicly how these two screws are secured and that, for whatever reason, this may have been overlooked in individual cases.

First of all, I'm very pleased that MMC has accommodated a customer to the extent that he is satisfied.
What I still need information on is how CX owners can check whether their morgan is experiencing the same problem as aerotaff's.

In the first instance, If you can jack the front of the car up, remove the wheels and look for any play in the steering arms. Any local garage would be able to do this if you don't have the necessary equipment at home.

For a more detailed check you would need to remove the relevant cover plates to get access to the steering rack itself in order to check the mounting bolts.

Tim. Good advice the wheels have been off three times in my ownership for a clean check and fettle the suspension bolts etc were all checked it went through two Mot's every time the play was checked. What nobody does is take the plate off and why should you I think many people will from now on . Em
