Agreed, but this is where specialist auto electricians come into their own. They have a set of knowledge, tools, knowledge and experience that the average vehicle mechanic simply doesn't possess. It's often better to just get a mobile tech to come to you rather than trying to find a Morgan dealer with the requisite resources.

I believe that the vast majority of electrical problems are caused by moisture or oil creeping in through weak points like connectors, most of the rest are due to vibration/chafing of poorly-secured wiring, a few are down to poor shielding or potting, and only a small minority are down to actual failure of electronic components.

One of the things that does tend to make me a bit grumpy is the wholesale component replacement approach to fixing vehicles. I completely understand that it's probably cheaper to just unplug components and fit new ones instead of paying £100+ per hour for a technician to fiddle about tracking down what the actual problem is, but it seems pretty wasteful to me.

In general I agree with you, however I would suspect that the increasingly restricted access/sealed ECU (euro 7) and Morgan's own programming may present an Achilles heel, should they cease to offer support/spares. The BMW side of the electronics maybe well catered for longer term, the Morgan specific element may become problematic.Members on this site have already experienced access issues on sealed ECU's on their cars.

Well I needed 2 pcbs on my S1 Roadster but avoided the second by wiring the lights full on. Whether we like it or not this is now the world of our cars.
I'm going to age disgracefully and just enjoy the CX by wringing the nuts off it. You only live once.

Too right, and long may it be so.

Yup, that's why you always have the Morgan grin John laugh2

A lot of the crap on here slamming the CX is from non owners and it's beginning to get up my harris just a wee bit innocent

The CX owner in Malvern that dailied his was fair comment but I think we all know that it was never intended for that level of usage imho..

p.s. As said earlier when the left knee finally goes it's the CX Auto for me, no question.

Ditto, and I'll be spannering and adding tweaks myself too, there's bound to be Beemer ECU specialists able to unlock it

The current depth of documented fixes and work arounds is the only real difference I see between the ownership of a trad and the CX. I'm sure as the CX come out of warranty and are tinkered with, that position will change for the better.. I was quite impressed by John's retrofitting of a stereo system into his CX, whilst it may have been a more sophisticated unit, a practical measured approach had it fitted in no time.

One only has to look at the depth of work arounds on the 3 wheelers to appreciate the skills and ingenuity of the community.

I 've had my last trad Morgan, the left leg can't handle extensive use of the clutch in dense traffic, which is an increasing reality where I live, So a few weeks on I do miss the Morgan and an automatic CX maybe the only way forward.

I did use my kent 4/4 for 3 years as my daily driver, whilst utterly reliable and regularly serviced, it fell apart, the inner wings and chassis rusted, the frame started to rot with all the exposure to rain etc., it needed rebuilding after just 3 years of daily use in all weathers . At least the CX is better built, better equipped and much more capable by comparison. The world moves on, and so must we, if we are not to be left behind in our mists of nostalgia.

John - that's one hell of a buy for someone with a spare £50k.
Appreciate its a 22 model year but I wonder how much that would work out against a new one on the configurator?
Goes to show extras are loads of money when you order but worth diddly squat when you come to sell

Interestingly, it being sold as a new unregistered vehicle with only 100miles on the clock? Possibly an ex demonstrator that's gone out on trade plates?

I think it’s been spoken for. Page not found, even from the main MMC menu. A good buy, and goodbye!
