Thanks for posting the vid Jacques, I suspect we have discussed more recent market trends in depth a while back, and perhaps in a tad more detail than in the vid.. I suspect the values of old machines have altered considerably perhaps in line with the ageing process of the baby boomer generation who seem to value them most, myself included. (-:

It seems logical (?) that enthusiasts may also have thought of the investment value of their classics, in terms of receiving primary returns through the enjoyment of ownership of a machine, as opposed to a secondary valuation in terms of it`s possible market value, real or imagined, at any particular time during one`s period of ownership should one wish to convert it into cash...?

I suspect if investment in terms of returns in the purely financial returns may be the primary motivation then classic cars of the ICE variety may be at risk of reassessment in the marketplace as a whole, given much of the foundation on which that market may be built may be related to baby boomer perspectives and the degree of acceleration in the rate of decline in their numbers relative to the passage of time, combined with the seemingly current instability of political influences and possible alteration in terms of capital gains tax regulations on cars in the UK..?

Best bet would seem to be to enjoy one`s Classic(s) while one can...? (-:

One aspect that is perhaps not discussed as often is the dwindling pool of drivers who know how to operate a manual transmission. In Sweden (and elsewhere I think) it is possible to get a license for "automatic only", which is easier to learn hence faster hence cheaper. About 40% of new Swedish drivers take the "auto only" option and that number has been steadily increasing. During a visit to the factory in Malvern earlier this year I met a very nice chap by the name of "Cousin Nick" who informed me that the vast majority of Plus Fours are sold with automatics, partly with resale value in mind. So, even if future generations of young hipsters value the analogue experience of a trad Morgan or other classics (together with film cameras, vinyl record players, manual typewriters and, what, fax machines?), they may simply lack the physical or legal ability to drive them.

Adam, I suspect you could take that line of thought a stage further.

As an occasional Tesla driver, I wonder how many people in time might learn to drive in a Tesla or other type of EV with all the bells and whistles that simplify the whole process of driving by greatly reducing decision making demands placed upon the driver... ?

I think there is an auto only licence available in the UK also.

There is George smile
Also ref your Tesla comment and bells and whistles, see the latest Volvo ad on TV. Definitely not a car for me, but perhaps an old 200 series! grin2

As very few modern cars have manual transmission there is no strong incentive to learn how to change gear, and the more EVs become the norm then, unless you are interested in 'classic' cars why bother.
Having said that, my two grandaughters, who have reached driving age, both are learning on a manual car. I was taught to double declutch when I first started driving, so when I taught my sons they learnt to double declutch. Yesterday my eldest, who passed his test nearly forty years ago, reminded me that he was told by the examiner, in no uncertain terms, that there is no need to double declutch. He still does though.

A 960 estate with the 24v IL6 would be very nice. Lovely leather seats and quality fittings. I have no idea what I am going to do when the key to the E63 S212 estate is taken away from me because it will have to be taken! Can you fit a tesla motor to a wheelchair ?

The way cars are being dumbed down yet the screens are giving access to more distracting content is going to lead us to finding a complete new level of accidents. We had a standard phrase in IT, every time we make it more idiot proof all that happens is that we expose a newer, better standard of idiot.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Not really Luddite - they would be serving two masters, one the seller and you the buyer. I very much doubt they would do this and if they did they could be in a messy legal situation.
