Just a quick note.
This picture of a Wright brothers flight is from 1905. The plane I flew in yesterday, basically a finished commercial aircraft, was available from 1919, just 14 years later. How this rapid progress was possible is incomprehensible.

went to Church Fenton airfield for a coffee and saw this taking off, also on the far side of the airfield the police were practising car stopping tactics, interesting to watch.

PS starting to worry about car hire on the continent. OK this time but do any Old TMers know of companies or recommend those that don’t load the cost for us grey nomads………perhaps even for campervan hire as well . Mainly interested in Germany, Austria, Italy, Croatia ,Slovenia, Hungary.

PPS appreciate colour is a personal choice and once had a girl friend (just a friend) who had an old Pink Fiat 600? with a coat hanger ariel bent in the shape of an erect penis and testicles and a large wooden key fixed to the back. Thankfully I was never a passenger in it !

We use AVIS and they don't as I recall.

Amazing, Graham, I was at Church Fenton in '73 for my Elementary Flying Training with the Fleet Air Arm.
In those days I had a TR6.
Yesterday I drove 30 miles in the Roadster to get petrol, but there was a queue, so I didn't bother filling up - which meant I drove another 30 miles of Bedfordshire country lanes again today.
