I was so preoccupied with the central screw nut that I tried your recommendation right away. Pour boiling water over the screw nut... wait two minutes and lo and behold, the nut can be loosened. Anyone know where to buy those sockets in the UK ?
My CX came with a flat open hex spanner & a mallet. It sits awfully close to the wire wheel rims, not the best design !!

Mulfab make angled longer handled versions of your mm one.
I have alloys now but am keeping my mulfab and Lionel spanners for now

I use this brass jobbie, despite years of abuse it works well and very reasonably priced https://shop.mwsint.com/product_details.asp?id=179The pre-warming works too, because the spinners are solid brass and the heat expends them more than the steel threaded hub and cracks open the bond
