Replaced the gasket between the exhaust manifold and down pipe. It wasn't as straightforward as I had hoped. There wasn't enough clearance where the pipe goes through the chassis to drop the pipe far enough to clear the studs. Had to take out the engine mounting bolts and jack up the front of the engine about an inch. There was then just enough clearance to remove the old gasket and fit the new gasket with new nuts and spring washers. As has been said before getting down under the car (I have an EZ CarLift) is easy, getting back up is more of a challenge

Washed Morton and clayed surface then Meguiars wax paste as winter protection. Car seems to have recovered from severe misfiring incident yesterday. Had this before but it was over two years ago. If it was in limp mode, it still did 80mph which is only speed it would run smoothish at . This time spanner sign immediately came up and code P2135 found which I've since cleared. This corresponds to voltage abnormalities in the redundancy of drive by wire system. Checked foot pedal sensor and throttle body connectors and had a general wiggle of relays and fuses. All seems fine now fingers crossed.

Fitted an inline fuel priming pump to help get fuel to the X flows mechanical fuel pump after the car has sat idle for a period without use. It works well, I'm glad I got round to fitting one of these after owning the car for 40 years!

Chaps, any chance of the details please ? as my old F Super has a very low pressure cam driven pump and no carb tickler and can require 'excessive intervention'

It's currently under the bonnet, but I'm going to move it to the rear at the weekend, to where the fuel line goes over the rear arch. I only need to use it if I've not used the car for a few weeks. At the weekend, gave it about 5-6 pumps (till the bulb went hard) and she started fairly quickly, Normally be cranking for ages, as the fuel evaporates out of the weber 32/36 floay bowl. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2025/11/05/PXL_20251102_143819908.MP-1.md.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2025/11/05/PXL_20251102_143827142-1.md.jpg)

On a crossflow, all you need is a non return valve between the fuel pump and the carb to stop the fuel draining back.

Yep you beat me to it Arwyn,, Non return valve is the way to go. It'll never drain back and won't cause any inconvenience or problems down the line!

Tried a Sytec one way valve, but still a ton of cranking needed if left for a few weeks. I think the issue may be fuel evaporation rather than drain back (possibly exacerbated by being outside all year) - it seems to be a fairly common problem with the 32/36DGV and modern fuels (having read other car forums that also use that carb - however the usual caveat that a lot of internet stuff is sh1te).
The best option is to use her more often, but in the meantime the pump solves the problem.
I had fitted an electric pump which solved the starting problems, but that produced other issues so I've gone back to a good mechanical one.
