The Royal Mint post was the first one I came to that was pretty detailed explanation as to why a safe haven....do a search on gold as a safe haven in times of economic and market uncertainty is internationally recognised as such.. But like all commodities it is open to speculation and volatile market movements especially when other traditional markets start to show better returns. Currently the US Equity markets are showing strong growth and better investment returns so funds are transferring from gold to equities hence gold prices are falling.

If I was buying gold I would have done so back in 2008 when the US mortgage scandal came to light, and the resultant financial collapse, or at the out break of Covid and definitely the beginning of the current UK recession. Th e problem is knowing when exactly to get out of gold, before other markets show sustainable growth and there is more certainty and gold prices fall.

As I have said before the cost of our Morgan's has been amortized prior to purchase always as we don't do credit, thus making them playthings of greater value but zero financial assets so enjoyment is easy.

The only significant investments we made were into our three children from breast through Uni and beyond and the returns have been incalculable in terms of joy they far outweigh any object you care to mention.

People should just get out there behind the wheel and give it the beans as regular as possible all year round as one Springtime won't arrive one day you know ! The Morgan will then be pristine and enjoyed by others.....

p.s. Phil has the right idea on all this stuff.

I quite agree with you, in fact my last two house purchases were for cash, no mortgage or any type of financing. If I buy something the cash is gone, if I get something back when its sold its a bonus and helps pay for the next item I'm buying.

I've only posted about gold being a safe haven investment in response to someone else's posting asking about gold. I've learnt the hard way that 'cash is king' especially in times of recession and forgone many opportunities to increase my investment income over the years to my detriment, because of being so risk averse. Not complaining just saying.

I blame my Grandfather a self made man who started penniless and built up a massive portfolio of rental properties, who always maintained that if you haven't got the brass in your pocket you can't afford it..........and he led a very full life.

Yes it's probably a generational thing with the overriding feeling of attempting to safely protect our future income personally instead of leaving to the investors, some of whom have proved to be far less than worthy keeping it polite.

Cash is king still here in our part of the world or bartering of skills, still thriving out here in the sticks farmer budster

What the IR doesn't see it can't grieve over is the principle down here. Being economic with the truth in this regard is the lesson all our Governments have taught us down the years innocent

Interesting 2001 + 8 for sale on Car and Classic 170k miles on the clock..

https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/2001-morgan-plus-8-n0z6q8

Originally sold back in 2020 with 166k on the clock, respray and retrim, but no mention of of that in the car and Classic advert…

https://www.glenmarch.com/auction-cars/show-backup-image/85747/results

I did message them regarding the above but chose not to update the advert…

Expect it is buyer beware, but would likely sell better if they were honest..

Expect it is only worth 12 to 15k in current market if a good one goes £20k at auction

Not a lot of money for a whole lot of car, the recent expenditure with Morgan (not sure on what) should give one some reassurance as to condition. No matter whatever the circumstances, it is always a case of buyer beware.

Went to see the Morgan with 170k miles. It has a good history and I suspect it did have a speedo problem, as the mileage is fairly consistent with the first owner. Then suddenly in 12 months he did over 40k miles, which seems strange. Anyhow, drives very well and suspect it has done 140k, so still high. I now own it, so do I now own the highest mileage Plus 8 ??

Mileage never worries me as long as well well-maintained, and this one has a stamped service book mainly with Morgan and has again been in the factory for work recently.

Good to be back behind the wheel of a Morgan, I sold my Plus 8 and Aero 10 years ago.

Will be going over the car, then driving down to our winter retreat in the Algarve..

Great looking car, nice striking colour combination that seems to wear it's mileage quite well from the pictures, I hope it give you many years of motoring pleasure.

Douglas, congrats in acquiring your "new" Morgan..

I suspect on a machine of as simple construction as a Trad +8, that it may be relatively easy to judge it`s condition than on more modern maxhinery with their many bells and whistles, also potentially much simpler to maintain too.. ?

Wishing you many miles of relatively traffic free Tarmac. .
