Does anyone know if you can retain the mechanical rod clutch linkeage when fitting a type 9 into a 74 crossflow ?

Yes, when mine was done by SiFab, he kept the rod.

I couldn't get it to adapt to T-9 in my '73. It may have been that the bell housing I got wasn't built for it. I went with a hydraulic set up and it works nicely. It seems a lot simpler that way. More linkage means more to go wrong, and more to lubricate.

My '74 crossflow has a cable operating it ... the joys of Morgans! 🙂

Not wildly enamoured with it ... I wonder what it would take to change to Rod Operation? ... might investigate that over Winter.

When I converted my ‘71 4/4 in the mid 1980’s I tried hard to keep the original rod operation, but found the new T9 bell housing forced misalignment between the pedal rod bulkhead exit and the clutch arm. This did not seem sensible so moved over to a cable operation which has been totally reliable, and has covered some 70,000 miles now.

I was very interested to see TBM's rod operated set up, more pictures or drawings please.
I have never been happy with Morgan's cable operated system, nasty piece of engineering which gives barely enough separation at the clutch.
As I have the engine out at the moment I have been considering a hydraulic system with a concentric slave cylinder, but it is an expensive solution, pity Simon is not still around.

Not the best photos, but hopefully you get the idea. The bottom 'pivot' is a clevis fork that's been bolted through a spare hole in the bell housing. The bar pivots on that, and as you press the clutch is moves the rod, which pushes the bar out. Just below is a bar that's connected to the clutch release arm and that gets pulled out to release the clutch.

Three adjustment points - clevis fork at the pedal, clevis fork at the end of the bar, and clevis fork on the clutch release arm bar.
