Every time I see this title in the list I keep thinking it is about QUAD the hifi company, I really need to get out more.

Might be a bit off topic but I run my log burner on the wood that comes down the rivers round here - farmers still seem to use the rivers as waste disposal chutes. Anyway after decades of reliable service from an old Flymo chain say I now have a Husky that is an absolute pig to start and wont idle for long without stopping for the day. Apparently its cheapo chinese manufacture but then so are the smaller domestic Stihl . Giving up on it after several dealer visits.

What should I replace it with for reliable but intermittent use? Leccy or what good make of 2 stroke? Leccy would have to be battery.

Ewan will be the man to answer this. I have a Husquvarna Rancher 422 with a 22" bar (they do shorter bars which in general put less strain on the motor) ... mine has been easy to start and totally reliable for years of fairly heavy logging ... but it is part of their commercial rather than domestic range.

For intermittent use maybe electric would be the way to go for you (though mine sits idle most of the year then just gets pulled out and abused for a month or two in the winter without a hitch) ... especially if you could use the same common batteries for other things like a strimmer or hedge trimmer.

I'm just about to get a Milwaukee battery powered chainsaw for logging......... all my other stuff is milwaukee so I've got a few batteries.
I'm definitely not going in to full lumberjack mode though........😂

Happy new year all, this one started in the saddest possible way for me but how about this for a beautiful ending, we chopped trees at the woods again yesterday.

PS. Cordless chainsaws are great but only as good as the batteries, cheap stuff is a waste of time, the one in the previous picture is a Makita XGT 40 volt, has the same power as a 50cc 2stroke and the best connection between battery and tool.some of their tools are manufactured in their Telford factory as an added bonus. Don’t buy from Amazon, Jeff doesn’t care about you and he doesn’t appreciate the money, go to a real shop with people in in it.

Sharp change to the weather yesterday, snowmen, skiing and sledging in the Alpine like conditions at the woods, best fun we’ve had together for a good while.

Yep ... same here .... local roads are drifted and blocked .... taking the chance to dig my workshops out of piles of discarded junk and abandoned tools, so haven't taken the Landy out to see how 'blocked' they really are 🙂 ..... just off out to sweep the snow off my solar-panels ... makes me glad they're ground-mounted! 🙂

Started my day recovering my neighbour's Range Rover from a drift on our track ... he made it halfway to the road then bellied down ... useless road tyres! 🙂 ... drifting in nearly as fast as we could dig it out! 🙂 ... they've been here about 4 years and this is their eye-opener to proper snow ... you can't beat a proper Defender on knobblies 😆
