Interesting the variation in opinion.. (-:

Perhaps, I failed to put my point across well... My sense of logic referred to the evolutionary process moving along with the times as best the MMC could... while still in the minds of some seemingly standing still... ? (-:

If one looks close enough it seems that the Trad evolved to match regulatory changes, or do you not consider the necessary adoption of EFI as a process of change, followed on by the need to fit cats, even air con, piped leather upholstery, longer doors , and loads more changes to match market and regulatory requirements, all that over the years prior to the emergence of the CX design changes, followed on by yet further necessary modernisation in the form of the Supersport.... Or did no one notice...Really..?

And I thought I was the Luddite....(-:

Yes, and this is testament to that Ian.

I can think of no other car manufacture that has felt safe enough to retrace it's history and produce a stripped back model once they realised their so called sports car was getting overweight with trim levels A/C Automatic Box, Power Steering and added weight of pampering for older owners, of which I am..

I dearly love my Plus 8 but the Sport for sheer twisty chuckability fun is king woohoo .

'Evolution' in Morgan terms probably would just about go unnoticed in the mainstream automotive world.......!!!! ****pre cx****.........that is clearly revolution........
The same fundamental elements of the car obviously remained for 100 years.... with scarcely any major changes.....

The 4/4 is Morgan.....Morgan is the 4/4...................full stop...the end....that's it.....!!!😆

Flabby, overweight, sanitised, over optioned, over powered, boring.......'modern sports cars', totally miss the point of what a 'sports car' should be..........imho😆

Julian, I suspect that some more ..err.. forceful and fundamentalist Morganeers might determine that the 4/4 has one wheel too many to be a real Morgan...? (-:

Caterham did produce a limited edition retro Seven. It had a small-ish engine, narrow tyres etc , going back towards the original but obviously with some modern tech. Decent price too and they were quickly snapped up.
I can't see Morgan going down that route. Return to a ladder chassis retro? The M3W was a step down that route but essentially too expensive compared to other 3-wheel competition.
Judging by the numbers and prices of trads on sale the opportunity to own one is good but, where are the buyers? As CX cars increase as used then trad sales are only likely to stagnate, especially for run of the mill models.

The Caterham with the Busa three pot sold out as soon as they announced the run, so as popular as the Morgan 4/4 Sport proving that people like the back to a proper visceral sports car feel.

Caterham Seven 170
Engine: 660cc Suzuki 3-cylinder turbo charged
Weight: 440kg
0-60 mph: 6.9 seconds
Power-to-weight: 170 bhp-per-tonne

We have an owner on here of a Busa Caterham.

Unfortunately, a company has to earn money in order to survive.
Only time will tell whether the CX and CXV models are the right way forward.
In my opinion, Morgan would have disappeared from the market today if it had continued to build the Trad. Why? Because with Morgan's structure and location, it is not possible to make money with the Trad these days. Not moving with the times only works up to a certain point, and then it's over. That's just my humble opinion.

Agreed. We must hope the Plus Four into the USA works.
I got a cheap CX thanks to MMC's issues with rads & brakes, this lead to rapid modle upgrades & sales offers. It is a great car but I sold my Brooklands to buy it for mid forties and the dealer has yet to shift it even at 36k.

I spoke to the auctioneeer the dealer are using & they confirmed the market is a buyers one now for trads.

I have a distant memory of the CEO of Honda once saying something like, eventually there will only be one car manufacturer in the world, oh, and Morgan

If I remember correctly, it was actually the founder, Soichiro Honda, and the quote was supposed to be "In the future, there will be just half a dozen car companies – and Morgan."

For awhile, Honda were a client I worked with and at the time they were early pioneers of EV tech. They had released the Honda Insight; if memory serves it was circa £17,000 new (in 2000) and Honda were still supposedly losing around £5,000+ per vehicle. However, they had patented 300+ components that related to the EV systems and they had hoped that these would be licences by other car companies; therefore, they would benefit in the long term.

An interesting company and one that has both adapted with the times as well as making some incredible vehicles.
