I wondered if anyone had suggestions on wiring a "high-level" brake light attached to luggage on the rack of a MY2022 P4 with the twin hood brake lights. I was going to brake into the twin lights supply adjacent to the nearside hood attachment to plug in the new light when luggage on and reconnect the twin lights when it's off. The new light feeding wire going under the hood seal. Does this sound like a plan?

Hi i have a Single central light on my Plus 6. I T’d into the feed an ran the wire to a connector I poked through a Louvre on the spare wheel cover. When I have luggage I simply connect the extra light to that. Both lights will then come on. I did have to make a connector cover to keep water out when not in use. If that makes sense.

I have one on my 2023 Plus Four. It has the Cobra light but that gets obscured by a suitcase. I bought an LED light and cut the supply to the Cobra one that came from the spare wheel well. I used Waterproof connectors to do a quick swop of the lights. Superseal connectors. There are you tube videos on how to use/fit them. I strap the light to the suitcase with a basic strap, the LED light is fitted to a strip of oiled wood that slides onto the strap. Quick and easy to do the swop when needed. Only one light works with this set up so it's a Cobra or extra, not both. Note, for the Plus Four there is a plastic cover below the spare. I removed this to get at the original connector plug , cut that and extended the wire as I needed the new connectors outside it. Then fitted the Superseal connectors. This kept everything watertight. Well up to Morgan standards anyway!

Haven't fitted it yet, but I'm also thinking along the lines of teeing into the existing feed using Superseal connectors and then attaching an LED aftermarket brake light to the luggage. The one I have bought is IP68 (high standard of ingress protection for electronics), has an adhesive strip which should attach to the luggage strap, and is rotatable so that the light is correctly oriented. I do wonder whether the adhesive is man enough for the job, but that can be rectified. high level brake light

I'm considering looking at putting a clippable high level brake light/ running light on the luggage rack upper ledge bar as shown here and run the wiring along the rack framework. I was following a CX Morgan on the motorway in very heavy rain on a misty night and the amount of spray being generated at night and it's dark colour, I often lost sight of it in the rain with only the very small lights and number plate illumination to give it's presence away. I'm not quite sure how but I'm sure there is something out there, its a matter of finding the right size clips for the luggage rack. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2026/02/08/Morgan-stop-light.jpg)

I used this LED strip mounted on a wooden batten that straps to top of luggage to replace obscurred cobra. It offers wiring as tail light (50% lower intensity) as well as brake if fitting permanently. Should be easy to tap into existing tail/brake light wiring.

Similar position. Steve Saunders had a modification where the high level third brake light is above the rear window. As he said, the purpose of the high level light is not for the car behind you, but for the cars following the car behind you. Lovely idea, but works best when the hood is up.

When I collected my 2012 Plus 4 sport a couple of years ago from London, Sue was following in the Mercedes even though it was summer we went through a daytime horrendous thunderstorm going over the M62 , It was so bad with the spray and high winds the hood was ballooning and water was pouring in around the front of the side screens, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face, so I slowed down, put my fog lights on and Sue was losing me completely from view in the spray everytime a lorry passed me in the first lane. I after a while put my hazards on. Without question the rear illumination on a Morgan is not the best. in extreme conditions and it needs some extra lighting. Whilst its nice if the car behind the car that is following you sees the lights, I tend to worry more about the proximity of the car immediately behind me seeing my lighting and not collecting me along the way. When I was following the CX I for the first time I experienced what Sue experienced when she followed me, it was not very reassuring..

This is why a black rear number plate makes no sense on such a small car. We followed a black 4/4 early one morning on the M42 around Birmingham, in darkness and heavy rain. All around, reflective plates were markers. His was black so only had the two real lights, when all other rear lights were at least five times bigger. That 4/4 was invisible in the spray.
