Bit of a long shot. Has anyone seen this shaped window.



On another type of car ?
Reason whilst messing about in the back with the tool tray out, I nudged it with my shoulder & it popped out.
Seems the seal has perished, now with the lip missing. I am trying to source a new one or something similar.
COH Bains have loads but not that shape. I suspect Morgan would have used one off another type of car.

You need to talk to Woolies they will help you out.

A picture and dimensions of the profile they will sort you out. Likely come in a roll - so cut and glue to fit.

Once you have a matching cross section rubber seal and before inserting window push fully home all around aperture and cut a few millimetres longer with join at the top. Then lubricate seal with diluted fairy liquid and use a tool such as this to insert window. I would avoid generally using glue as seal needs to move whilst inserting. You need to end up with seal ends touching each other and slightly under compression to form seal - a blob of silicon glue may help here.

As above, once you have a length of suitable profile seal it is cut to lengthand the mating ends stuck together to form a complete unit. Woolies are a good source.
Fit it and the glass. You can use proprietary windscreen sealant or silicon. It might also be possible to get a clip on seal to cover the joint.
How to fit the glass into the seal? Have a look on you tube. Years ago paracord would get the outer lip up and over the glass ( my dad was a dab hand at this and I remember helping fit vehicle windows). He'd always put proper mastic under the seal to ensure a watertight fit. One watchpoint is not to put too much mastic/ silicon into the area. Then gently press the rubber to make good contact, not pressing too hard to make it leak out. I seem to remember the proprietary mastic didn't harden but retained flexibility.
It might also be worth contacting an autoglass fitter. They might have experience of similar jobs outside the modern stick back methods.
Aha! Just spotted the window shown looks like a stick on one rather than one that slots into a rubber seal! The paracord method wouldn't work!

Looks like a bonded version to me or has it got a push bead bonded to the screen which pushes into a rubber trim fitted in the roof cut out?

If it's a straight bonded version just get a windscreen fitter to re fit it!

You can see how the lip has perished on the little bit still just there. Plus some of the bits with the mastic gun to show scale.

That looks like a liquid rubber mastic to me, you are just removing the the set rubber forming the adhesion and water seal.

There is a black silicone sealant which is designed for cast iron gutters. It holds its colour and flexibility and has lasted me over 25 years in use. Readily available in tubes you apply it using a simple frame gun.... £5 Screwfix!

Time to stop thinking everything is technical and special on a Morgan, it generally isn't! Either way I'd suggest you get on and fix it. Clean up the roof and glass. It'll be toughened glass I imagine so take care on the edge corners when scraping. These are the vulnerable areas and a chip there will cause the glass to shatter into thousands of small pieces. don't stand the glass on concrete or sharp/hard surfaces on edge either. Buy yourself a set of silicone edge tools, again dirt cheap from screw fix or the bay.

1. When all cleaned up, tape of the glass (outside face) leaving an overlap area. make this even for aesthetic purposes.

2. Tape off the roof with the tape edge just going into the start of the curve for the glass recess. apply silicone in a continuous bead around the roof channel estimate the bead size to just push it over the edge of the interior roof cut out, this will help clean up later!

3. With two people or on your own if you have glass suction handles, lower the glass into the roof aperture and gently push the glass into place. You are not trying to push it in as far as it will go, rather keep an eye on the silicone and stop as it reaches the internal edge of the roof seen through the glass.

4. You may have to apply a further bead of the sealant to the gap between screen and roof on the outside. try and keep it clean and don't add to much. You will tool this off between the two tape edges, tight to the tape!

5. Give it ten minutes to pick up a bit then carefully remove the tape from the external glass surface and then the roof channel edge.

6. From the inside use a silicone edge tool to tidy the internal join up. When tooling don't try and cover long distances, Short and lift off, clean tool and go again!




Notes:

There is also a silicone which is similar and used for marine applications and again works well.... I have no preference for either product.

On ebay you can buy suction cup handles for the elderly or disabled, bathroom use. Cheap as toast and these will do the job nicely as the screen is fairly light. A lot lighter than an old bloke swinging on it anyway!

Take your time..... it's not 5 minute epoxy and won't go of under your tools.

If you have a light spot fill it straight away. if you try and do it after the initial application has set it will not stick to it!

The silicone tools clean easily with kitchen towel so keep them clean as you go.

If you cock an area up.... clean it straight away and continue on. When happy walk away and leave it for several hours/over night!


Now you have your roof back!
