Graham .... There's those out there doing some radical custom jobs on the Virago ... often well away from the 'factory chopper' ethos. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/03/24/Screenshot_20260324_114050_Chrome.jpg) Not sure I'd ride it far but I do like the look ... K Definitely not my style Keith! I missed out the 900 Triumph Legend from my earlier list. A number of other bikes but none in the laid back foot forward custom style of the Virago and other Jap bikes.

Would be a dull old world if we all liked the same stuff π ... for me that looks a lot better than the way the factory made it (ok, might need some tweeks to temper style and elevate comfort)
Treading on the coat-tails of heresy here but to me it looks like a Vincent designed for Mars-Base One in some alternate universe π

No new photos yet, but very close to being finished. Just waiting for the seat to come back from the trimmer, and a little bit of last minute fettling.
Lot of work - new front brake seals, pistons, lines, pads and master cylinder. Rear was better with just lines and pads needed. New tyres front and back. Changed bars, grips, mirrors and indicators. Upgraded to LED bulbs, and fitted a Badlands indicator module so they work properly (Harley had a bizarre system where you have to keep the button pressed in to make them work). New Air Filter, lost the sissy bar, and did a far amount of 'de-blinging'. Kept her gloss black for a change.
New plugs, leads, fluids and filters, but the engine is running really well, and the carb didn't need any stripping or cleaning. Have stuck a can of Seafoam in the tank, and topped up with some E5.
Hopefully get her on the road for the first time at the weekend (with the old seat) for a few shakedown runs.

π¬π§π¬π§ Soon, I promise As ever, two steps forward, one back - this evening, I managed to get the primary case inspection plugs open by making a special tool, and some persuasion with a bit of oxy. However, when I came to remove the fill level screw, I could pull it out by hand! Helicoil kit ordered.....

Almost done. Just waiting on the seat - it's losing the blousey pillion hump and going to be the same depth front and back. Will run her like this for a bit and then see if I fancy anymore changes. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/05/03/Ironhead-2.md.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2026/05/03/Ironhead-1.md.jpg)

Cobra seat would look properly old-skool ... and probably fine for a bar-hopper (if not for a 200 miler! π)
Good to see pics of your progress.

An illegal number plate for that particular year of bike. It looks better than a yellow one though. The Plod wouldnβt know the difference?

Not so The V suffix plate covers 1st Aug 1979 to 31st July 1980. The rules say you can only have B/W plates on a vehicle manufactured before 1st Jan 1980, so legal for the the first 5 months on the V reg. Mine has Date of first registration on the V5 as 1st Jan 1980, so it must have been manufactured before then so is legal to have a B/W plate. The lack of rear reflector and front mudguard would mean an MOT failure, but I don't need one so not bothered!
