I think Donald Duck hasn't reckoned on China's slow diplomacy. They will broker the deal in their favour & USA is toast. I spent a lot of time in China & that is their plan.

Julian, I would say this wouldn’t I ……..if you were making 5 to 9p a litre, I think if you regularly got £60 drive offs ( police do nothing) you might be tempted to put the price up even though you have 30,000 litres underground. !? My friend just sold his family forecourt /leased showroom for nearly 3 million. He had enough of staffing issues, making sandwiches and the shop stealing. It’s like all retailing businesses , looks easy on the face of it but with many forecourts, undercut by loss leader supermarket forecourts , it was easier to sell the land to property developers.. MM

Coming out of Sheffield tonight we passed at least 2 filling stations with just the diesel price switched off on the totem pole, so assume run out of derv & locally haven't been able to get premium E5 for over two weeks. but plenty of E10
Committed to a Mog run to Monaco very soon, & bit concerned what supplies will be like in rural France on the way - anyone know of a fuel station tracker that covers France ?
ps, if the blinkin BBC would stop panicking viewers with alleged shortages !!

MM £27,000 profit underground + what ever the profit margin on impulse buy bars of chocolate is....... I'm sure they make a decent living under normal circumstances, although I accept that retail is generally hard at the moment......... but fuel is an essential not a nice to have......!!! There's no excuse for robbing and exploiting the general public....... they'll get no sympathy from me I'm afraid......😤 🇬🇧🇬🇧

Your maths would make me angry ! Let’s say they had 30,000 litres and marked it all up by 10p a litre = £3000 of price gouging MM

It’s human nature to want the cheapest price but be careful what you wish for, the cheapest product from the cheapest vendor comes with a guarantee only of mediocrity in one or many ways. I’ve no expertise in volatile values of commodities, but it stands to reason they sell at today’s value regardless of the price paid, should the price drop, will everyone rush to help out the poor guy with a whole stock of overpriced fuel as a reward for not putting up the price to reflect the restocking cost when they should have. Silver has existed for thousands of years but doubled in price in one, who today would sell at any price achieved from any date in history more than six months ago, I’d guess nobody who wants to continue is business.

It doesn't matter what the price of the diesel is or the quality of the supplier, we are seeing diesel fuel tanks dry at retailers, and unless they have excellent fuel filtration systems, we are going to see lots of the bottom of the empty tank sediment being stirred up when fresh supplies are added to empty tanks, same problem with drawing fuel from very low tank.s, greater risk of sediment...........plus add in the sediment in your vehicle tank as it gets closer to empty whilst searching for diesel.......most likely going to keep the recovery services busy over the coming weeks..
Lets see how many people start carrying a bit of hose pipe in their cars to alleviate their fuel worries by adding to others and relieving them of their tank of fuel. I wouldn't want a diesel car at the moment as my sole means of transport.....this is really getting serious for those living in the countryside and with no alternate means of getting about, as there is little or no public transport.

Last night I was checking where petrol stations were on my route up to Scotland. Plenty showing both on motorway and other main roads. Some were listed as "automat" so assumed to be pay at pump/possibly unmanned. I'll change my stops to add one extra in so more fuel left and smaller top-ups. When up there we will use whatever is available, previous trips helping with locations. As usual the Motorways have inflated cost but will only be used if others don't fit. I seem to remember motorway service areas had a priority for supply when we had the fuel shortage a few years ago. Mrs sospan was a community nurse and had guaranteed fuel at a designated petrol station. I had to do top ups as and when needed with a significant commute. It worked ok in the end. I did have to use one motorway stop when commuting a couple of times. I had a diesel commute car back then so a round trip used about 2.5 gals. for 60 miles each way. Public transport? Not suitable due to train times/schedules/ getting to stations. West Wales to Cardiff.
