Like all motoring brands, you can see the evolution over time with Morgans the increasing sophistication of the engines, electronics , suspension and relative ease of operation compared to earlier models, whilst clothed in a skin fixed firmly in the 30's, which in my view amplifies the evolution of the other changes. From a very simple car that has evolved into a technically more challenging car in it's latest iterations.

My other favourite brand is Mercedes,I would love to have a Pagoda with its relativity simple trim and drive dynamics, but I also enjoy my much newer Mercs which are far more capable of travelling vast distances in comfort with ease enjoying eg a sophisticated sound system, satellite navigation and all the mod cons like heated seats, air conditioning to cosset you from the stress, but can also remove/dull some of the driving experience, we all crave for.

Then individual preferences come into play, and your most positive driving experiences in certain cars, which will influence and colour your views and for me when it comes to Mercedes, the 90's 124 Mercedes E Cabriolets will always be the Mercedes I hanker for.

So for me this discussion isn't so much about the merits of CX verses trads, but more a recognition that the needs of many of the drivers are changing and evolving often based on eg increasing age and infirmity for some, that starts to influence the choices we make, which in no way undermines the choices of others. I can't deal a clutch anymore, especially on the heavily congested roads I encounter everyday, it might be different if I was living in a more isolated less dense traffic environment.

So fortunately Morgan offers an automatic, which doesn't dilute too much the raw driving experience of a Morgan we all enjoy, for me it enhances the Morgan driving experience, as I gain more leg room and don't have to deal with the clutch..but an automatic won't be to the liking of everyone..........

I should also point out the Morgan is my everyday car, it's not tucked away for sunny days, or in hibernation over winter and so far it's proven itself as a very user friendly daily hack, which I can't say the same of my last 3 trads the 70th, Plus 4 and Roadster. My 70's and 80's 4/4s were my daily hacks and I had some really enjoyable times and the CX has facilitated those type of times again.

Hopefully subject to the degree of protest motorway blocking expected this week. I'm travelling south to have a look at the Harley.on Saturday.

It's good news that the CX was introduced (allegedly) to bring more younger owners into Morgan ownership, I'm not convinced they stay. However, it has given an option for long term Trad owners to move into CX cars, some going for the auto option to extend their potential Mog ownership which is a great spinoff, benefiting from the modern depreciation too

That made me smile. they are beautifully flawed. As soon as I got any new Harley (,the UK spec was actually the Swiss market spec for all of Europe.) I would immediately ( well I'd get someone to do it for me) junk the tyres, exhausts, stage one the carb, replace the electronic ignition, uprate the brakes even before taking it out the showroom and that was before buying all the accessories which were de rigor to make it more individual and my bike.

I remember carrying a jack in the saddlebags for years in case of a puncture, knowing full well there was no-way I could deal with it on my own, especially if it was the rear,.at the road side........but it made me feel a little more comfortable in the knowledge I might have all the tools ( and the added weight) I possibly could need, even though I doubt if I personally would have used them. Good fun and great times.

I'm looking at getting a fully loaded last of the evo engined Heritage Springers, all flash and no go with beautifully crafted springer front forks, solid mounted engine that will shake my fillings out at above 60/70 mph.

It will be interesting to see where the bottom line on CX values settles in coming years, as clearly the brand is going further upmarket and the cost of getting into a new car will increase without question, the Supersports are pushing £150k for a well spec'd example...........Also how demand for pre MY23 models with no traction control and a more pure less driver's aids driving experience is sought out, they like the trads maybe the CX dividing lines especially with the more traditional light setup.

I had an FY23.

And I like the fact that it has traction control, but the "classic" headlights... love
The only thing I don't like is that awful steering wheel with the airbag... redcard

I have driven both the CX and the trad but owned neither and therefore have no axe to grind. The difference between them is that the trad is genuinely an old car even if made recently. It crashes and bangs from pothole to pothole,. the chassis is very flexible which is as well because the suspension is limited and crude, the steering is weird to anyone used to modern cars and the accommodation is poor. The CX feels like a modern sports car and has the handling and performance to back that up. But the charm is missing and the obvious BMW bits in the trad style cockpit make it seem like a kit car.

There are many better modern cars than the CX. But the trad is simply out of date. I bought neither

Though, if you buy an old trad then they're not out of date ....they are what they are .... and as I wanted an 'old car' it suits me just fine šŸ™‚

The last line sums Morgan up perfectly....šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

There has been, continues to be and will always be a following for Morgans generally and trads in particular. CX's will probably expand their following as trad drivers become (even) more elderly and infirm.....šŸ˜‚
There's no right or wrong in Morgan ownership and if you try to rationalise them..... they make no sense whatsoever.... BUT... they are oddly addictive......šŸ˜‚

Having changed the Honda and got an MG4 XPower, we can now waft along in comfort and get to 60mph in under 4 seconds. I’d rather be in a slower, leaky Morgan though! šŸ˜€
