Check all window seals have been replaced and check carpets for mould. The spare wheel lives in the front of the engine bay, he has removed the rear wiper that could cause body damage if not well cared for. Identical model to ours but in Wessex Green which I suspect this is actually (BRG is often bandied) the wheels are off a later SE6 (alloys) I think. This should have steel wheels with a fibre glass trim which looks like an alloy wheel but not many seem to have survived, shame as they were really good quality. I know there is some love on here for the SE5a's so put it up ooi.

A couple of work colleagues had them back in the 70's. One claimed 100 miles travelled in an hour on the autoroute du sud on a trip down to the south of France. To balance the other complained it was impossible to remove the fuel tank without cutting internal bodywork

We regularly did 100 miles in the hour in Germany back in 1978 as the top speed was around 124 so cruising really.
The fuel tank comes out from below once you have removed the straps and fittings etc, wooden block and trolley jack to lower it before flushing it out.
I dropped mine in German to fix a leak with the Radio Stations 350Watt Solon assisted by a Gaz lamp blast. It worked too.
Not sure where your folklore tale came from about removing the floor. - not gomog was it ?

I had a tan 1978 model that was immaculate, third owner, nice to drive but linked a drink, 26mpg.
In the summer I could smell the grp when it got warm.
Very practical and comfortable classic
Swapped it for an MGB LE
2012 Plus 4 in Sport Green. Much comfier than the Plus 8!

It seems fuel tank leakage related to the combination of age and corrosion, might be quite common, as I knew a the owner of a Scimitar whose tank leaked fuel... Cant read of fuel tank removal without repeating the sad tale of a a young man who lost his life removing a fuel tank, the fumes from which removed the breathable air from the pit he was working in, very sad..... Explosion is a risk when petrol fumes abound, but not the only one...?

They have aged very well. The V6 lump does have a weakness though, the fibre teeth on the crank/cam wheels. In my GIlbern I was always worrying about them stripping but never did. Steel replacements were available but said to be noisy.

I rebuilt a Granada engine for a neighbour many years back when the Granada was a then a recent model, My neighbour used it as a taxi and it had done quite a high mileage, when I stripped it and saw the fibre wheel, I must say I was impressed, thinking it to be a better option than timing chains...

The Ford F250 trucks we used in RSA had the same problem on the big straight six engines back in 1973 - they went steel after the first two failures.
