As I live in the wildwest, I have CCTV coverage all round my house. At least twice a year I get the feds round asking to look at the footage and I then send them clips via a secure portal.Mainly vandalism and car theft, but a couple of months ago had a bloke outside on the phone clearly dscussing how he'd stabbed someone. They were very interested on that and had to provide statements as well as the footage.

"The Feds" !!? ... you obviously spend far too much time in the company of 'yoofs' my friend... bit of an occupational hazard I suppose! 😆

Too much time with the Feds! Got a fair number of family and friends who were or are serving Officers - they tend to refer to themselves as Feds. I think it comes from the "Police Federation".

Think that might be a family-specific linguistic anomaly 🙂 ... 'The Feds' to the other 69,500,000 of us is one of those creeping Americanisations promoted by use on that new-fangled interwebby thing! . Great that you have such a Police-orientated family ....easy to knock them but they'd be missed if they weren't here 👍*

How often in life has use of a word inside a profession had a different meaning outside it.

We had dinner years ago with a neighbour we had not really spoken to before.

Over dinner we discussed both being Architects but he was now retired. As usual five minutes into the conversation it occurred to us we were joking about different things. He said Royal College of Architects and I said Internet Spod.

He architected buildings and I architected large piles of computers and network equipment.

He actually became quite seriously offended in the room, saying I should not use the title "architect" as IT had no status or formal accreditation which would allow anyone to claim it. He had a fair point. Anyway next time I saw him he made a clear point of calling me a "technical person" to the other neighbour in the gaggle.

I had done a bit of homework having been quite offended. Anyway the thing I architected had more users in a day that the one he designed in a year and had scaled to over 12m concurrent users, 4x its original design spec, without degradation. He seemed a bit put out when I raised this point and I never heard from him again.

I have never been good at making friends.

Although actually (unless one wants to descend into extreme pedantry) he was essentially incorrect. As a member of the British Computer Society which is the UK's Chartered Institute for IT, as an Enterprise Architect I was awarded CITP (Chartered IT Professional) status.

So although the word 'Architect' doesn't appear in either of the chartered statuses that BCS awards (the other being C.Eng for developers and engineers) the IT architecture disciplines are indeed recognised for professional status.
