After 1600 miles in Switzerland I know for sure I need to replace the webbing etc. I have read re removing the front seats, (lots of useful advice thanks), but I do have one question re the webbing.

Did I dream it, or is the webbing attached to the 2 wooden blocks (which I assume are atttached to the floor ?) rather than the seat ? I have got a very good trimmer lined up to re-upholster the seats as well but he does want me to take just the seats to him. Just wondering if this is a problem if the wooden blocks are separate to the seats and therefore how he can replace the webbing ?

Hope this makes sense and very grateful for any guidance.

The webbing will be separate from the wooden spacer blocks.

The replacement webbing fits onto the seat base just like your favourite armchair albeit not as exciting as the Morgan.

I have a 1999 4/4 Zetec. On my car there is no webbing. The seat cushion is supported by a diaphragm. This is like a piece of netting that is held to the metal seat frame by metal hooks. You can check if you have a diaphragm by pulling the seat cushion back at the rear where it meets the seat back see photo. My drivers side diaphragm in my car split a while ago so I took the seat out and took it to a local car trimmers and they replaced the diaphragm.

It is also a easy problem to cause to occur. The original stuff is called Recaro SR3 Seat Webbing

Splitting it is very common to trads where the seat does not pleat forward and offer easy access to the rear compartment of the axle. Those owners (I was once one of them) place their knee in the middle of the seat to gain access to the rear area of the car hen the top is up. I am happy to see another webbing type. Does it produce a different feel?

Once, when mogging very far from home, I did an emergency repair by weaving (crisscrossing) the bottom of the seat with the plastic cord they use with a lawn clipper. It was so comfortable that I forgot to change it for 2 years!
