Guys,
I gather the morgan logo and badge are to be changed - I have seen the new one on Mogtalk but I don't seem to be able to input it here Have a look on Mogtalk if you can -- What do you think? I am undecided!

I am amazed that nobody has taken Speedmog up on his post, as the other Morgan DG's have been very busy with opinions on this development.

Speedmog's New Bonnet Badge for his Aero

Let's see if he does it, and to save you the trouble of looking at the thread here it is again...

Think it would be absolutely horrible on a 'classic' body. Looks like it should be on a Chrysler, or similar - and the wings bring to mind the logo of a political party.

.....IMHO

just 'Vented my Spleen' on MogTalk.

I think we are just regarded as 'Consumers' by MMC and our loyalty is totally disregarded by the management. See Charles Neals aka Mr Miscellany and a Member of the MSCC Inner Circle. Makes me seriously wonder why we put up with a 'product,' that is by current production car standards 'Below Par'.

The Psychology behind why we continue to buy 'Morgans' is worth a Thesis;I'm sure Nanking will be happy to provide a Bursery ! Over to you Paul.

There is no need for a thesis on the psychology on why we buy Morgans. Simply put, we love the cars and that is deep-seated.

There is apparently an equally as deep-seated a psychological drive within today's MMC to distance itself and its clientele from the past MMC and its clientele. The logo stuff is its latest manifestation. The list is long.

The same advisory last week also pointed to the Lifecar as the new future and I hope that succeeds as well. In any event, none of this really matters as long as the trads keep selling so remarkably well and nothing is done to upset that.

There is no company in the world that requires its ties to its past to sell its products (trad or Aero) more than Morgan. From that point of view, one could consider this move, in the face of the most bouyant sales in years, as incredibly bold.

For me it is quite simple:

Do I like the new loge: No, I don't.

Is it a serious problem: No, I don't think so.

Will I buy Morgan numberr 5? Probably, as long as it is close enough to the old models. The main reason for me to buy a Morgan is the body. As soon as they will change that significantly I will have to think about restoring the car I've got by then. I was not interested in a Morgan that looks like a BMW Z 4. As the BMW was the better alternative I would buy the Z 4. (Just an example.)

The logo shouldn't be a problem. Some of you use old number plates. Those who don't like the new wings can fit old wings.

You are right Roderich. As long as it does not deter buyers, it is nothing more than an aesthetic taste and attitude that one can disagree with.

I am not sure that will be possible..unless the Company changes its mind. They trademarked the old wings 2 years ago and have been quite agressive since in tracking and controlling its usage. The advisory states that "This will be the single Wings version we will be using from now on.", though they indicate a gradual transition period from now to Geneva 2008.

This does not suggest that they would permit the production and usage of the traditional wings.

Ah, but why do we love the cars in such a fundamental way? - Is it:

Because the shape triggers some 'schema' about the past?

Because we want, and/or want to be associated with something so 'individual'?

The nature of the driving experience, which can be challenging and even masochistic? It certainly requires far more effort from the driver than a ‘standard’ modern car, and offers a more equal and ultimately rewarding ‘relationship’ (my wife says that every journey feels like 'an adventure').

Or do we love them because we must support our choice to own one rather than an alternative – an element of 'cognitive dissonance'?

Whatever it is, I do find the relationship fascinating.

We are probably back to Simon’s comment about “Just as interesting people are generally flawed ones, so are cars.”. Can we relate more easily to the cars because of the flaws, in a market place where individuality is gladly sacrificed in the search of perfection, reliability and safety?

On one of the many debates raging on this subject on DG's the issue of potential BMW involvement with Morgan has been raised. Indeed with legislation as it is perhaps Morgan need a big technology partner to help like BMW. coffee

I thought the same as soon as someone pointed out the simmilarity to the Mini logo. sherlock

If it is true and Morgan are to develop a Trad bodied but Aero chassis car then it raises the issue of who/how do you market it? To Aero owners, to Trad owners or to a whole new market? If it's a new market then you might need to look at how it's branded. sherlock

Just a thought
