Having assembled outside Guildford Cathedral this morning at about 9.00am, we moved of in bright sunshine in a convoy of about 30 cars. The cars ranged from 2 Morgans (one being mine passengered with my son Josh) to a number of Ferraris, Astons, TVR, Sunbeam Alpine,Stingray and various other cars the oldest of which was a 1929 Lagonda. The special 007 Exhibition at the National Motor Museum was our eventual destination and I can well recommend it. However shortly after hitting the A3 south of Guildford there was some jossiling for places (thank God for a light car with a powerful engine!)as we had no problem with keeping up. The most exciting/exhilerating part of the whole trip was being behind the Ferrari and the Ford GT as we went into the new Hindhead Tunnel.Josh captured only a little of the excitement and roar of what was a really deafening gutsy moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wMPzFATkJU

So the 96 club's raison d'être of doing track days so members keep to the speed limits on public roads is working out well then... Mind you, who can resist giving it some beans in a tunnel when you have a rorty motor.

David you should let him on a tunnel run in an aero. I assume the speed cameras weren't working Oops do they have speed cameras in tunnels

According to AutoExpress, the Hindhead Tunnel has a system called "Clearway" made by Navtech Radar. Apparently it is an alternative to CCTV to detect cars tailgating, changing lanes etc.
I do not know if it is under test or operational. Fingers crossed.
