This could be of use. I would expect it is the oil you are using http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/seals.htm#LT77http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/LT772.pdfThe LT77 is quite particular about the oil that is used. Rover used to specify ATF (Ford Dextron 3) to overcome baulking when cold. That is very thin oil. There are those who use Redline MTL or Castrol SMX-S with reported success and much smoother shifting. There is a now synthetic oil specifically designed for this gearbox from a company called Difflock. The product is called Difflock Evolution 1 Fully Synthetic 5 speed Gear Oil - 1 litre. These oils are fully synthetic with friction properties designed especially for gear syncros. They reportedly make gear changes like a knife through butter and synchro engagement is really good. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/gearboxes2.html#LT77

Regarding my 1984 4/4 with CVH Engine and Sierra Type 9 gearbox ------I find it impossible to engage any forward/reverse gears until the engine/gearbox have warmed up. Would changing the gearbox oil help ? Does the clutch need adjusting ? The clutch is manual and heavy to operate, has anyone any experience of a conversion to hydraulic? Would appreciate any useful comments please. Adjust the clutch,

He can adjust the clutch pedal for height or cut a new pushrod length for the slave which are the only adjstments possible. But if they both worked fine for many years and still do for all other gears, why would either be a factor now? Most he can do in that area is to make sure his fluid is fresh and all air bled. It sounds like a problem with his remote. Seems the remote must be adjusted to permit proper access to the reverse position. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/remoteissues.html#AdjustmentAlec

The linkage is mechanical rather than hydraulic.

I think we have two different issues in the thread - one re: Type 9 from the OP, the other Deni's LT-77 (which is hydraulic). It would help if people referred to which one they are responding to... Cheers,

Regarding my 1984 4/4 with CVH Engine and Sierra Type 9 gearbox ------I find it impossible to engage any forward/reverse gears until the engine/gearbox have warmed up. I recognise the stiff gearchange while cold problem, though not the clutch problem. My 1st mog was a 2001, then a 2007, and now in a 2011, and all of them were stiff when cold, and were noticeably easier when warm. I have got into the habit of starting the car, and while its warming up, sort out the tonneau cover/hood/sidescreens etc.
