Boat build

Another experiment in photo posting, this photo was taken yesterday, if this works I will add earlier pictures of the build and bore you all.

Fantastic, it worked, now I can add earlier pictures if there's any appetite for them out in TM land. I might even do it there's not.😂

When I get stuck , a little voice in my head always says “ use the force, Ewan , use the force”

I then spend the next few hours repairing what I broke doh

Whilst looking for the hull turning footage I came across these. This is the scarf jointing process for the plywood I mentioned in earlier posts.
The two sheets are placed in the jig one on top of the other, stepped by the length of the joint, machined, then the top sheet is flipped and the two or three and a half in my case glued together using cascamite.
Long lengths of wood for the hull were also created using this method.

Here's the joints machined and ready for gluing.

This is the scarf jig I made to create the beveling on the sheet ends.

The majority of the ply was removed with a power planer.

Then finished off with sandpaper.

This is great stuff. Following with extreme envy of your skills and patience.

BTW - it's a long time since I last used Cascamite.

That looks fantastic, do you have more photos and details of the build?
That's a project that would be well worth its own thread, I'm sure others would enjoy it as well.

I've spent this morning viewing the hull turning footage, there's around 40 minutes worth but I really should edit it and create something more watchable. There's a wee bit of bad language in places and a few builders bums on show pantsdown

The photos are not very good but I'll post some for viewing until I get the video ready.

After an epic battle with technology I've lifted some still images from the video.
Five to start with, four to follow.
Start at the bottom and work up just like you had to do in your Working career.

By this point in the build our eldest son had graduated and was working within the oil industry as a project engineer with a crane company so the lifting plan was down to him with dad doing what he was told. We used four endless chains and two wire pullers to rotate the hull. Prior to starting I added two struts at each fixing point to take the hull weight.

Yet again start at the bottom and work up, sorry. Six photos not four like I said earlier.
BM Germany, thank you, if your Scottish and don't want to spend money needlessly you have to get creative. xmasbigsmile

This was on the 11th December 2016, it took the four of us 3 hours to turn the hull. At the end of that year time spent on the build was 1350 hours.
