Epic Euro excursion

The Italian 🇮🇹 trip has begun. The drive to Newcastle to catch the overnight ferry was quite pleasant. The DFDS service is absolutely superb, what a pleasure, all immaculate and a comfortable cabin. the buffet meal and breakfast had endless choice and dozens of attentive staff.
It’s been a long drive from Amsterdam to our next stop here in Munich, top speed on the autobahn was 170mph but petrol disappears fast at that speed and I paid a whopping 2.54euro per litre for the premium stuff on the motorway so probably not worth the time saving.

Some likeminded travellers at the Newcastle terminal

Nothing seems to rot there, even old rubbish have gleaming discs and calipers. The Lada looked as good as new, in fact, if they bothered to remake them, it actually looks like a sellable product but I’m sure compliance would kill that idea. That was probably the poshest shopping street too, the hotel next door had a brand new Maybach and the new massive BMW that’s so ugly, nobody likes it but me😁
They like big saloons and estates there, so much nicer looking than clunky SUVs, mind you, if you want to go fast on the autobahn, a big wide saloon must be the perfect way to do it, ( if the brakes are any good)

Thank you for sharing Ewan! It brings back memories of my trip a few years ago.

Concerning the Lada, they still build them and up until the conflict in Ukraine, you could still get one imported to the UK for the princely sum of £21k inc VAT!

Safe travels and please keep the updates coming.

Munich photos bring back memories of working for Kraft & lving sout of there in the 80s. There was a factory just beyond lake Garda. We would do as you did & drive over the Bremmer Pass in April or May. Bavaria was still cold & snowy but Italy was always far warmer.

Have a nice trip and keep posting photographs. We have good memories of Munich too, when my eldest son was a trainee from Delft University Automotive engineering at BMW. We visited him a lot, and our BMW 530d at that time did 250 km/h on the autobahn without any problem...... Not possible anymore with my current electrical BMW...! Munich is a nice town, lots to see, and it has a southern glamour, so different in atmosphere from other German cities.
Have a nice trip and enjoy the Italian life! We follow you next Thursday, in the Morgan!!!

Cold and wet again today but we had great fun sliding around the bends on the way up the mountain to a coffee shop, bought petrol from an old fashioned petrol station where the attendant fill the tank for you, a great way to to business!

Met this pretty Italian woman near the coffee shop, she was vey slim but not very talkative, I’ve no idea what she does but they say she’s outstanding in her field.

Very nice pictures. thumbs Regarding the Polizia Locale in their nice Alfa Romeo, we spotted the blue-white Lamborghini Gallardo Polizia on the Autostrada several times. They do like nice policecars in Italy....!! cop flag laugh2
