Epic Euro excursion

The Italian šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹ trip has begun. The drive to Newcastle to catch the overnight ferry was quite pleasant. The DFDS service is absolutely superb, what a pleasure, all immaculate and a comfortable cabin. the buffet meal and breakfast had endless choice and dozens of attentive staff.
It’s been a long drive from Amsterdam to our next stop here in Munich, top speed on the autobahn was 170mph but petrol disappears fast at that speed and I paid a whopping 2.54euro per litre for the premium stuff on the motorway so probably not worth the time saving.

Some likeminded travellers at the Newcastle terminal

It translates as purple potatoes but I don’t taste potato?

Looks and sound like gnocchi, which is potato based.

That rings a bell, I knew there’d be some more sophisticated than I who’d know, it was very nice indeed. I thought I was getting a very light puffed pastry/bread that I’d had in Modena, it was gnnoo-something too and one of the best tastes of the trip. One recipe I know I can do was a dessert I had in Parma, vanilla ice cream with balsamic dressing, far better than it sounds.
Stresa was a washout, such a shame as the drive along the lake would have been amazing with the roof down, young lad has driven all of Switzerland, the pass we wanted to take was closed but it’s been good anyway.

The Alps are well behind us now…

The young lad has driven pretty this whole leg to Düsseldorf, had his go on the autobahn but it was a wee bit busy, 138mph with the roof down, it’s crazy they’re still allowed to do it!

We’re at the Hyatt on the 15th floor, great panoramic view of more thunder and lightning, we’re in a burger joint now soaked to the skin.

I’m not the flashiest guy here though, in our car park is the largest and the smallest cars next to each other and a Toyota version of my Ferrari.

The view from our window and the interesting modern buildings…

We only had a few hours to spare in Düsseldorf, made the best of the breakfast then a decent walk. The weather spoiled the visit here it’s probably got a lot more to offer than we saw. In Amsterdam now for the ferry to Newcastle, nice and windy, sea legs at the ready! On the whole the weather could have been better but for us, full on guaranteed mid summer sun would but unbearable and it’s easier to heat up than cool down.

And I’ve enjoyed your homeland too but I didn’t do it justice, Germany is worth as trip on its own as are the Alps of Switzerland, Austria and Italy, more comprehensive tours of those areas will need to be planned. We certainly underestimated how time flies, we’d have liked to see more. as id already said the ferry service is excellent and very convenient for me…but it is also for you if you’d like to visit Scotland!

On the boat now so even I can’t miss the departure, (it happens to me quite frequently for some reason😁)
