They seem to be going arse about face on this, before they get to the PG dealer they need to have the quality in place, Bentley offer 3 year unlimited miles and Porsche is the same for most models.
I cant see pg dealer type buyer wanting current MMC factory quality levels, and the last thing that they should do is burn the wider public and put them off for the future.
May be they should start this PGD adventure with the EVA, and really do a good engineering job on it.
I'll probably get shot at from all points of the compass but when spending nearly £70k on an Aero 8 S3 a few years back it's not unreasonable to expect the hood not to leak when it rains. Claiming it's a part of the joys of 'Morgan ownership' is too rose tinted for me. After over 100 years of making cars you would have thought that MMC would have had a head start on the 'young up start manufacturers' who have mostly managed the challange of making a soft top that does not leak, and get it to go up and down at the press of a button at no extra cost (and yes I do know the Mini Coupe soft top is a manual hood).
When I was looking at an Aero S3 and ready to place a deposit the dealer claimed 'the build quality is as good as an Aston Martin' I was not 100% sure about that claim.
More worrying is the fact that if had I bought the S3 there is a good chance by now the paint would be bubbling around the rear light clusters, the side exit exhausts would have changed their angle of dangle , the interior would have water stains and the wings may have dints from the inside where stones have been propelled at them from the tyres as there are no liners to protect them.
I love Morgans and if I'm buying a trad I know it's an old design made with modern running gear and everyting that goes with it. If I'm paying well over £100K there are a few things I'd like to take as a given, qauilty and water tightness is one of them. I'm now in a position to buy an Aero derivative if I wanted to but at the moment the afore mentioned will stop me, irrespective of what type of dealership is selling it.
I'm sure if MMC wanted to they could create a hood that doesn't leak, but maybe that's what most Morgan owners want.
I'm with you on the roof situation considering the cost of an Aero S3 ..... my son has a £2K MX5 and that's as water tight as a ducks Proverbial.... so why o why has no one at the MMC resolved this ongoing problem ?
Could it be that no one tells Mr CM that they are not going to spend thousands of ££££££s on a soft top car that leaks and that's another lost sales opportunity and possibly a 'customer for life'
Having not sat in the latest Aero derivatives do the seats have any adjustment in the backrest? It was not even an option on an Aero 8 when I was looking although you could have it on the trad, at a price! But then you missed out on the fun of having someone make you a bespoke leather pad to match your interior so you didn't get back ache.
A few reasonable bits of development (which on any other make would be taken as a given) and the Morgan customer base could grow significantly.
I'm sure MMC know exactly how many people bought a car , do they know how many 'lost opportunites' they have and why? It would be easy to have a feedback form on their website, Tell us why you bought a Morgan and Tell us why you didn't.
My hesitation on the purchase of the Aero 8 is pretty much stated. If I could find a water tight one with a 5 year paint and corrosion warranty MMC woud have another sale, new or 'pre owned'.
