Dave i too have had the pleasure of both cars, in fact the BMW is still on the fleet, used by one of my Reps who has requested we do not swop it in, he loves it, but i suspect for its style rather than anything else. BMW 3series 2.0D

The BMW does app 45mpg on average
The Golf will do 50+mpg on average
The Golf was a bit like
WATER it is what it is, but if i had to choose i would go Golf
a) 2 Door much easier to enter and exit
b) FWD
c) and from door to Door i couldnt give a dam what i drive when i have Morgan in the Garage
