Of course you are quite correct. The cost of homologation, even with the special exemptions for low volume producers, is a major consideration. It would save a lot of money if any new model was homologated as a variant of an existing car. I suspect, but obviously do not know, that even the new Plus 8 has been homologated as a body variant of the Aero.

Can't recall who, it may have been CM, talked about further utilising existing components to achieve economies of volume production and purchasing.

I don't really see that a differentiated variant with a smaller and lighter engine and drive train would detract from the prestige of the thundering V8s.

I think 1560's point is that Morgan could do well with a model that sits between the trads and the Aero range. If they were to decide on such a model it still be priced above the cost of a trad but attract people who perhaps feel uncomfortable with V8 power and the ongoing costs of ownership.

PS. It's not just about money. There are many people who could allow themselves an Aero but for various reasons would prefer something less but with the same Morgan style and all that that entails.
