I'll try starting the car immediately after it has been on a long run on your suggestion and see what happens. I'll also be changing the coolant from glycol to the waterless variety (it's a little overdue for renewal now after 4 years) as this new liquid seems to cool the engine better.
Apart from the rest of the electrics behaving themselves, the only "problem child" is that b****y engine management light!
