Running too lean on start and cold idle and the crank synch was out. And they thought the battery earth was not up to the job (small braided version linked to the rear chassis member.
so recommended firstly replacing the rather aged starter to provide more consistent cranking and draw less current.
Replace the battery neg earth lead with a much beefier version and connect to the same point as the engine earth rather than on the rear chassis. Apparently this is what they do for a lot of race set ups to get consistency. So now have 3.5m of big black cable to fit.
