It turns out that its 'grammatical content' is as futile as that of the MSCC Senior who took the trouble to write to us some years ago to say that 'the apostrophe' in our 'All Morgans' Day' advert should be after the 's'.

This sounds like sour grapes to me. Is it not possible the MSCC Senior's advice was offered with the best of intentions?

As to the grammatical content of the thread, it's usefulness is a matter of opinion. Personally, I found the drift more interesting and informative than the topic.

Maybe you knew what a tonneau is or perhaps you just have an aversion to being corrected, which would explain your reaction to your greengrocer's apostrophe? To my shame I didn't, so I'm grateful to Hamwich for his contribution. Maybe the subtlety of the wit demonstrated by Richard is lost on you?

Well done ! Top notch pendantry.

However........if we're being pedantic, may I point out that the plural of tonneau is tonneaux ? hide

You guys really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.... innocent

As always, I found Giles' contribution amusing too. ( I would welcome a pedantic intervention here to advise whether or not an 's' is required laugh2)

If you change your settings, the thread will only fill two pages. Maybe then you'll be more forgiving.rofl
