If the alignment is set wrong then the belt will move away from the tyre on acceleration but towards the tyre on the over run...or vice versa, depending on the direction of the misalignment. Setting it can be an exercise in trial and error frustration at first.
This makes a lot of sense and would definitely explain the noise. Did you perform your own alignment or did you take it to the dealer?
