Just catching up with this......

The reality is that all the ECU's use similar algorithms and an awful lot of them from the same suppliers. It would not in the least surprise me that this was used by other manufacturers as well..particularly as many outsource the ECU calibration to said supplier.

Manufacturers work to strict test achievement targets and the whole calibration is based around that. Indeed some major investment decisions are based upon the emissions test. Ford will admit that the reason they use iron blocks on the 1.0ltr Ecoboost is because it gives a quicker warm up than alloy. Start from cold being a key part of emissions testing.

Tip of an iceberg possibly here....

More likely, IMHO, some USA based ECU supplier or manufacturer is niffed they did not discover it first and hence objected....
