I had this problem and found the starter not engaging Traced problem to the battery which is not maintainance free and had to be topped up with distilled water Jump the car with a good battery to prove the point before trying to get the starter out I also found my charging system was only putting in 11.5 volts not 13+ Battery up grade which is 50% more power is made by VARTA and the no is 540 126 033 3132 They are handed to the position of the plus terminal Left or right Also with the correct charging voltage found the engine ran much better
