Do please bear in mind when getting the valuation done for the insurance company that you want the value to be as close as possible to the replacement cost - which is often higher than the purchase price depending on the age of the car.

Our old (1985) car was bought for around £13k in 2003. We added an Allon White hood conversion and some other extras. The last valuation that Mike did was around £16k saying "this is around what it will cost to replace and Allon White or similar would probably retail the car around £17k". When we traded the car in to Allon White in December 2013 it appeared on their web site at £17,250 and sold in less than a fortnight. And they gave me a higher price on trade in than we had paid for the car - nearly paid for their hood conversion! I think Mike was spot on.
