Hey there
I am opening a thread for my COMET since I believe its going to be quite of a journey until she is finally going to be finished in all details.
As mentioned in another thread, this was basically the plan:What I had in my mind was this "dirty" look of an old Mercedes Silberpfeil, or one of those old pure aluminum airplanes. Both not painted for weight reasons.
I could have gone for the polished body version, and wait for the surface to "weather". But why pay a forture to wait and make it "weather". Nope. Discarded.
Talked to my metalurgist friend about his opinion on a pure, untreated aluminum body. Basially no problem but it will chemically react (corrosion), uncontrolably depending on where its exposed.
Nevertheless, the untreated alumimum body of a M3W does not 100% satisfy my eyes. The upper body with its 3D-shape is "blown over" and basically mechanically untouched. Whereas the side panels are pressed and given shape through a roller press. This leaves a completely different look of the surface. Discarded, since clear coat also would not do it.
So it should be silver as a paint. Close to the pure alumimum look. I did then order an M3W in silver-matt. Apparently originally a Ford color. No deco-stickers applied to it. I will design some by myself, print them at my local printer in "car-wash-quality" and apply them. (I checked on the Superdry edition, all stickers are also applied on the varnish itself - without any clearcoating).
Leather is to be black with the rhombic pattern and silver-grey contrast stitching.
Rest is basically standard, i.e. black safety bars, chrome exhaust pipe (which I might wrap anyway), etc.
Heat cover is black, again to give contrast to body and pipe.
I have only received the photo book today. Car is still in Great Britain ....
